The everyone is saying these days, rare earths aren't rare, it's the refining process that is key.

The figure being thrown around is that China refines 95% of the world's rare earths.

So the F-35 has a small problem, it can't use the APKWS class systems. It currently seems to be in the domain of the F-16, A-10 and F-15. The Gripen is slated to get that capability this year.

From what I understand it was a small anti drone missile that hit it, which is why it survived. Luckily for that pilot, he got home and now has an epic story to tell.
