If you have info about recalled products from the listeria outbreak post here:

PRODUCT RECALL: COLD MEATS AND VIENNAS

Hi everyone
The Department of Health announced today that they have identified the source of the recent Listeriosis outbreak as Enterprise Polokwane and Germiston as well as Rainbow Wolwehoek. We source private label cold meats and viennas from Enterprise Polokwane and Germiston. We do not source from the listed Rainbow facility.
While we do extensive testing of our product within the Enterprise environment, as an additional precautionary measure, we are recalling a limited number of viennas and cold meats. We therefore have instituted a red alert and public recall (product off shelves with a POS block).
Food safety is of paramount importance to Woolies and we take all issues regarding the production of our food seriously.
Woolworths has a team of food scientists and technologists who proactively manage food safety, in addition to our independent food safety testing and auditing, to prevent microbial contamination of food. This testing includes Listeria.
Customers who have any of the listed products, should return the products to their local store for a full refund.Should customers want further information, they can contact the customer care line 0860 022 002.

Eskort confirmed that their items are safe to eat

What is the panic?

Just cook the stuff before you eat it if you are worried and you'll be 100% fine.

I actually don't know why they need to recall it at all. Just advise the public they need to cook everything until advised otherwise.

What about cold meat that is ready to eat without cooking.

In the current climate it's not ready to eat is it?

So just throw it in a pan and give it a new flavour.

You might just enjoy it and never do it otherwise again.

ALL of the stuff being recalled is ready to eat and pre-cooked....that's exactly why it's infected.

Pretty much all the stuff listed are things you don't cook. Reheating might kill the germs. Then again you might miss a bit and touch the packaging whilst/after cooking etc. Better to just not take the chance.

One will have to cook it thoroughly then. Very well done thin slices

Conventionally many people don't cook it no.

Doesn't mean you can't just cook it now.

And it's not a "might" it definitely will kill the germs as with any other raw product you cook.

As for the packaging...same applies to any other uncooked product. Simply wash your hands.

Apply basic food hygiene. It's not hard.

It only needs 75 degrees which actually isn't all that much. Medium heat in a frying pan for a few minutes and job done.

It's no different than anything else you would cook if you simply look past the fact that it was cooked already.

Many people like to fry polony and the like anyway.

I'm not sure I trust my kitchen skills enough to not open a packet and spread the germs everywhere. I'm not going to buy this stuff and try and cook the ham etc. in order to attempt not getting seriously ill.

Instead Im just going to buy stuff I know is safe. Simplest solution.

No harm in that and I wouldn't specially go buy any now just meant if you have it in the fridge.

We've known about this for months but people all of a sudden started caring yesterday.

Besides if you can cook anything raw without dying you can probably get this right too.

Anyone been throwing out food yet?

Wife has decided to chuck the remaining Viennas... Wasn't much about 6. But I guess it's no loss. We'll just buy the Escort ones.

Regardless of heat, you like "russian" roulette it seems :D But seriously, because of contamination, every thing else in your fridge has a chance of being contaminated especially milk. The bacteria is very resistant to cold even able to multiply.Simply not worth the risk.

The risk of not dying outweighs, for a bit of process sheep ears and pig feet perhaps a miss placed horse or donkey penis.Besides processed meats are the holy grail of things you shouldn't eat....

Besides the fact that I've got Crohn's Disease and **** myself every other day anyway, I've had rubella this year and narrowly dodge or had a mild case of Denge Fever as well.

So I'm living on the edge or unkillable, not sure which one.

Won't exactly run out and buy 5kg of Enterprise but if it was in my fridge would still eat it.

Generally don't really have enterprise stuff anyway.

Had some lekker smoked ham from Britos this morning.

It's a good lesson in food hygiene either way. Most people will have the ****s more often than not, for failing to handle cooked rice or raw meat properly.

Remind me NEVER to shake hands with you, only thing missing in your death trap fridge is Ebola.
