AA PREDICTS FUEL PRICE DROP

The more favourable rand exchange rate and stable international petroleum prices could result in a fuel price drop in June, the Automobile Association of SA (AA) said on Friday.

"The current data was indicating a drop of between 26 and 30 cents per litre for petrol, and between 20 and 22 cents per litre for diesel," the AA said in a statement.

"We obviously hope that the current trends will continue so that the reductions will be bigger by the end of May. Motorists have had a tough time lately and could do with a break."

The AA said the price of illuminating paraffin could drop by 14 cents a litre.

On May 7, the price of all grades of petrol dropped by 15 cents a litre, diesel decreased by 29.78 cents a litre, illuminating paraffin by 25 cents, and LP gas by four cents.

FUEL PRICE DROP A RELIEF

A fuel price decrease will lighten the burden for heavily-indebted South Africans, a debt management firm said on Monday.

"South Africa is a deeply indebted country with the total consumer debt totalling R1.47 trillion," Debt Rescue CEO Neil Roets said in a statement.

The decrease, announced by the energy department on Friday, would however have little impact on the more than 25 percent of South Africans who were unemployed.

"With more than a quarter of the country's workforce unemployed, it is going to take much more than a drop of 22 cents to bring meaningful relief to consumers who are falling into debt."

The price of all grades of petrol would drop by 22 cents a litre on Wednesday. The price of diesel with 0.05 percent sulphur would decrease by 23.58 cents a litre, and that of diesel with 0.005 percent sulphur by 25.58 cents a litre.

The wholesale illuminating paraffin price would drop by 10 cents a litre, and that of illuminating paraffin by 13 cents a litre.

The maximum retail price for LP Gas would fall by 27 cents a litre.

I can only think it's a combination of the distances we often travel, coupled with us not driving scooters or small vehicles like many Asian countries.

News Just In: The petrol price will increase by 29-31c/l while diesel will rise by 14c/l from Wednesday.
 
The fuel consumption will increase because of the added weight! Unless you store the diesel somewhere, you'll end up paying more than your initial save of 14 cent a litre.

PETROL PRICE COULD INCREASE AGAIN: AA

The petrol price could rise by 26 cents per litre at the end of the month, the Automobile Association said on Tuesday.

"There has been a slow, but steady uptick in the Rand/US dollar exchange rate since the start of July," it said in a statement.

"Over the same period, international petroleum prices have come off their mid-June highs, but not enough to offset the under-recovery in the petrol price."

Earlier this month, the petrol price increased by 29 cents.

The outlook for the Diesel price was more favourable. Current data predicted a slight price increase of around 3.5 cents per litre, the AA said.

"If international petroleum prices continue to trend downwards, the major factor will be the exchange rate."

The organisation said speedy resolutions to current labour disputes were important as they could negatively affect the fuel price.

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) in the metal and engineering sector is currently on strike.

Union members downed tools on July 1, initially demanding a salary increase of 12 percent, dropped from their pre-strike demand of 15 percent, a R1000 housing allowance, and a total ban on labour brokers.

The union announced on Sunday it had lowered its wage increase demand to 10 percent.

The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa announced on Tuesday it had withdrawn its final wage offer.

With our prices going to R2 per kwh it has become affordable to get a solar system with batteries. Our bill came today "R7212" :mad:

Did not use that much but yeah...
 
Great - price of a Barrel is currently lower than it's been in months, but the Rand weakens which gives the bastards in charge yet another chance at screwing us dry for yet another month! :mad:
