Like you I only have experience in a handful of JRPGs, most of it in Final Fantasy Remake series, which I really love. I tried the demo of Metaphor for around 2hrs and I could tell it's an incredibly well made game, so will definitely pick it up on sale at some point.

It's quite different from your normal JRPGs but it was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's a very long game. My playthrough took about 85 hours and I didn't do half of the extra content or achievement hunting.

Yep, as I said before I tried Persona and just could not...but this felt much more up my alley. The main reason I'm not interested in playing it right now is because as you say, it's an absolutely huge game...and I just don't want to commit to the playthrough now.
 
No issue with DLC being there. Pity it wasn't when Phantom Liberty was out. Good DLC change games.

And of course Wukong belongs there. Did you somehow not see the numbers this game pulled?

Have issue with the overblown amount of categories and non-remarkable games.

Was about to say, PL blows the socks out of pretty much any DLC. Sucks that it wasn't nominated...

If we go by numbers only, then CoD should win every year I guess. And the user vote counts only for 10% afaik. It doesn't hold the weight to get a game a nomination. Black Myth didn't review particularly well, thus why I'm surprised...

On the DLC: this just highlights an inconsistency with how games are nominated, last year Cyberpunk was nominated for best ongoing, due to the DLC, so why didn't ER get the same treatment? Instead it went to the GOTY category, which frankly could have gone to any of the other great games released this year

We'll see.

The issue I have with jrpgs is that you need a LOT of time and patience, something I have very little of lol.

I've played and loved every pc release of FF starting with FF8 (have yet to play XV, XVI and the VII remakes though) and Dragon Quest XI is brilliant, so I'll check out Metaphor eventually to see if it's just as good. I much prefer Western RPGs though.

The issue I have with JRPGs is they're made for anime nerds and weebs. Like make normal-looking people already, it's stale now...

You guys should really learn to pay less attention to "reviewers" with agendas.

And therein too lies the issue with these rigged "awards".

Yeah, it is so obvious that the Asian game companies have a much better understanding of the player base and what they want.

They are not bound by western culture demands so they can create cool games without having to satisfy a "modern audience" ito of character design and story telling.

But the nomination list is curated by the very people who review games positively when they cater to "modern audiences". It's all very bizarre. Let's see how EA treats them with review codes for not nominating their pride and joy, and whether there's any truth to the conspiracies...

Western game dev's about to do the same:

Trump's new FCC appointee, Brendan Carr, stated 1st thing he gonna do is put an end to DEI. Think all the other government agencies gonna do the same. Also won't surprise me how much hurt coming down the line once the court cases start getting ruled on.

Yeah, very strange. The fact that Black Myth is on there multiple times when most of these reviewers blasted the developer and boycotted reviews etc.

Eh, I wonder if all these failed games such as Concord, Suicide Squad and probably DA:Veilguard is causing a shift in the paid reviewer - developer relationship.

IGN can also only try that hard for so long to push these crap games down peoples throats before they lose their audience and credibility. They have the metrics, they would know how many people have stopped visiting their sites over the last year or 2.

They reviewed Space Marine a 6 and yet there it is on the list for best action game..
 
And the Golden Joystick Awards is on Friday...
