Some more numbers that scream bulls...t!
Kapsch, a public company on the Austrian bourse have promised their shareholders the equivalent of R670 million a year from this toll scam. They own 85% of the collecting company, so all the shareholders combined will get R800 million (round numbers) per year.
This after their running expenses and SA income tax. Say running expenses are 40% of sales and tax is 37%, or thereabouts.
O.K. then, to show a distributable profit of R800 million after running costs, depreciation and tax one would have to achieve a turnover of about R2,1 billion a year. Right?
But SANRAL says the amount creamed of for collection fees is limited to 17% of payments. So the R2.1 billion is 17% of the tolls paid. Well R2.1 billion is 17% of R12 billion, so that will be what they expect the total toll income to be. Per year! Plus VAT of course which means us suckers will pay R14 billion a year for the pleasure of gridlock.
R14 billion is 70% of the initial cost of the roads in the first place.
Clearly someone is lying. Is it SANRAL or is it Kapsch lying to their shareholders and investors? If it is Kapsch someone will go to gaol. If it is SANRAL no one will be prosecuted because in SA fraud perpetrated on the public is a retributionless occupation, practiced by the cream of society.
