The Gauteng E-tolling Thread

I am not sure what this oke is smoking, but I drive on the N1 & M1 every single day, and I dont see 8 out 10 cars fitted with an E-tag?! More like 2 out of 10...

All propaganda to try and tell you how 'wrong' you are for not getting a tag....

Fsuck ETOLLS!

I went to work normal route this morning, gave the gantries the finger as I drove through...

Did anyone hear the interview with Nazeer Ali yesterday afternoon on 702?

He claims out of the 1 million toll road users in gauteng 80% or 800 000 has already bought an E-tag and thus they expect a very high rate of compliance.

And with that being said, keep in mind that people like myself have eTags for the Bakwena (or whatever it's called) system up in Pretoria.

Gotta love the news reporting on radio - everyone is raving about how well etolls work and how smooth the traffic flows. Did no-one notice that school holidays have started and hence less people would be on the road (or will travel earlier/later). I have honestly seen no difference in traffic (except that South Africans can't drive when water drops fall from the sky).

SA gets compared to Turkey on an economic level. It doesn't make sense to compare SA with Aus.

Hope this isn't too stupid a question :o

How will we know that e-tolls have failed, what will be the signs. Will it just be a case of no one being prosecuted or what will be the trigger to open the champagne. :)

You forgot to mention that all the traffic lights in Joburg stop working when a single water drop falls from the sky !!!

Most of the traffic lights in Joburg are out at the moment - maybe this was organised by SANRAL ???

PHP on a Windows server - OMG - this will go no-where - the site will be taken apart in hours with data-leaks all over the place.

:D

Anyone hear from SANRAL yet? People indicated on 702 that their were inconsistencies in the beeping of the etags.

I felt physically ill this morning as I drove through the gantries, I can see this being a long drawn out fight. I just hope the people wont buckle under pressure.

Those people with tags deserve to have their accounts debited with whatever amount SANRAL deem acceptable. They must not go crying to the media now because they have been overcharged / double debited, etc.

I want my first picture they have of me :D.

Question.
How will it work. I have not transferred my car onto my name. They will now try to sue MR Mila because I drove a highway? He can proof he didn't drive and he can say he told me not to use the toll road.

From the old thread:

Sorry guys, but its not always that straight forward.

I seriously do not agree with e tolls, or voluntarily support it, but being someone that travels 160 km daily on the roads it's either sign up and spend max R450 a month, or deprive my kids when paying R1800+ bill every month.

I guess I am the small minority that will pay the R450 whereas the claimed majority will pay less the R100 or worst case R350 if you don't buy a tag.... So no big impact for you.
I don't want to sound rude or anything, but the whole cap thing is a problem in itself. Why should someone who drives 160km daily be charged just as much as some one who drives 90km daily (e.g. Pta/Wiliam Nicol, return)? While I understand your reasoning and situation, I just feel sad that this situation was created in the first place.

So a new thought came to me last night: when driving in a protest you are exempt from all tolling on a road. Why don't we just drive in a permanent protest? That way we will always be exempt? Just this morning they said that there was a strike every second day in SA, so what's the big difference if there is a protest every day.
