They had Nazi(r) Ali on the radio this morning.

They asked him a direct question, why different rates for tagged and untagged drivers, why the prejudiced, he failed to answer coherently.
Eventualy after being pressed some more he came out with a blanket 'to recover costs' answer.

I have a fundamental issue with this.

I do not want to get tagged, I do not want to give my details and bank account data to Scamral, I do not want to enter into an agreement with them under any circumstances.
By definition and agreement means you accept and agree to the issue or process. I do not, but am being forced to due to punitive charges for not doing so.

Surely the CPA or constitution protect us from crap like this?

I hope people sweat it out. School holidays will dramatically reduce traffic and back roads should ease up in the next few days for at least middle of January. The right thing to do is not buy a tag and only pay at the last minute. Yes there will be penalties but as long as you draw it out it will hurt their cash flow. I somehow doubt that the majority of people will do it (it's easier to succumb to the tag and the promise of not paying more than R450).

The fundamental problem I have is that once you register you agree to be bound by Sanral's terms and will have absolutely no way to get out of it ever again. Quite narrow-minded that people just go ahead and sign up.

Yep, I have a major issue with this as well. They are discriminating against us by forcing us to sign away our rights in order to qualify for the lowest rate. That is wrong on so many levels.

So if I had theoretically used the freeway this morning and now I want to pay within the 7 days, but I don't want to register or get a an e-tag, now what?

Can anyone find anywhere on the SANRAL website to do this? Can they do it at a SANRAL booth? If there is no actual way to pay them within 7 days as an unregistered user then they have been lying and, if you ask me, this is grounds for a court order to stop the system until they sort it out.

Me thinks that once you pay them you actually accept the terms and conditions (I would not be surprised that somewhere there is a little checkbox/note aka "By paying Sanral I accept the T&C's as published on the website". No CPA or ombudsman is going to help you there.

I'm so screwed, best back roads route takes 2 hours and a bit. Normally highway takes 1 to 1:15. Fuel consumption is much higher.

Yep, this. Now I'm actually considering leaving home at 04h30, to take those back roads, with the risks of horrific traffic and poor road conditions

I just installed Waze to avoid the gantries. Anyone know how it works? Put in the airport and it takes me through gantries even if I specify avoid toll roads. If I specify avoid highways, then it works golden but I want to use those ungantried sections only.

Ok SANRAL - so I am an unregistered user trying to pay within 7 days as per your website. How? Let me guess, I have to register, right? You really are schitts.

I don't think there is any navigation app at this stage that can help you. Best is look at say Google maps and the one on SANRAL's site and then work out a route for yourself to work and back and enter that route into the app.

This is telling me a lot about the people around me.
DOn't you just feel sad for the Johnny Bravo's that proclaimed to have been the biggest rebels and tells you stories about how the stuck up against un fair rules... and then this came along and they are the biggest puss!es of them all.

Now I'm wondering about all the lies they told me in the past... Bloody Sheep.

This truly showed me the colours of people that tries to portray being big men but can't stand up for something... seems like anything.

I'm disgusted.

Indications are that only 1 in 10 motorists has registered. I think there are a heck of a lot of Johnny Bravos around! Don't be so negative, it will take a while now for the tolls to collapse. Portugal's system took 3 years with about 60% compliance - we have 10%.

Meh. I thought Magicdude has cross-posted some posts from the Waze forum saying they would be implementing this.

Don't avoid the e-toll roads people, you paid for them, use them.

I believe what he said was that, the more people use the system the better it gets. Inputting data like e-Toll routes and such helps. He also stated that Waze would update the app soon with the new information. But if no one uses it / puts in data into it - then it won't work as designed.
