Traffic map shows back roads (Yellow and Red) to be far busier than highways (Green)....

You can look at the historical average for this period on Google maps (bottom left) - looks much the same for 3pm Tuesdays. Wait for rush hour, that will be more informative.

"We believe it is not too late for comrade Jacob Zuma to consider scrapping this system. We are making a humble plea to the ANC to listen to us before it is too late," Dakile said.

Comrade Jacob could not give a ................

So I've decided to put together a video as that seems to be a popular sharing platform. Stay tuned...

This is some good news:

NTA spokesman Theo Malele said that although the government had promised that taxis would not pay, 80 percent of the taxis in the province did not have permits.

"About 50 percent of those permits are lying with the permits board. How do we apply for exemption while the playing field is not even? This is an autocratic way of doing things," he said.

He warned that e-tolls would lead to an increase in taxi fares, which would ultimately seriously affect the poor.

Meaning those will be charged as they have not applied for exemption yet. I hope those permits take another 2 years to finalize. We might have 80% of the taxi's joining in the fight pretty soon.

They will not be charged..

and if they are, they will not be prosecuted.

COSATU are big talkers. If they really mean business they will give the ANC an ultimatum and withdraw from the alliance if they fail to adhere.

Anyone want to bet that the taxi's will raise their fairs to "make up for etolls", but never drop those fairs again if they get their exemption? :wtf:

Maybe but that then opens a whole new can of worms for SANRAL in regards to their legal actions.

If a taxi does not have a permit it means that its not a taxi. Without a permit it cannot apply for exemption. Without exemption SANRAL will charge it like any other vehicle.

If they do not, based on the fact that its a minibus, then they are discriminating against non minibus drivers. They cannot then turn around and say 'but its a taxi' as according to law it ain't a taxi as it has no valid permit and as such should be charged accordingly just like any other road user.

If not then I can also just apply for a taxi permit and let it hang in the process for the next two years and then demand not to pay e-toll. Where in the law does it state that my taxi needs to be a mini-bus?

I spoke to a petrol attendant this morning. He said that only 2 of about 40 "clients" (motorists) he served were tagged. This was at the BP near Beyers Naude.

I wonder how observant he really was... if true - thats a good sign.

Tried to drive on Grayston Drive shortly after two, big mistake! People avoiding toll roads I think? Never seen like that (and no, its not just the two sets of traffic lights that are out).

I wonder how observant he really was... if true - thats a good sign.

Well, he actually initiated the topic. He looked into my car and noted that I "also" did not have an e-tag. Only then did I ask how many have he seen and how many motorists he served.

I can only hope. That way the poor will be affected directly and they will understand the repercussions come voting time.

I will buy myself a bakkie and be very forgetful and leave the tail-gate open - problem solved (to all the bakkie dealerships - this is a freebie from me for your advertising campaign)

He said e-tolls might have put a strain on the relationship between Cosatu and the ANC, and that Cosatu would evaluate its support of the party at its 2015 congress.

"Going to congress in 2015, we will need to ask if it's worth it for Cosatu to continue to support the ANC. What will be the response of our members? I can't predict," he said.

Why only 'might', and why the hell wait until 2015 you idiots. By then the ANC will be in power for another 4 years and e-toll will be here to stay.

Yanga Maweza The ANC has failed us. Theyve turned their backs on us. Zuma and his ministers are just enriching themselves. They havent explained the R215m in question yet theyre forcing us to pay more, sucking the last cent out of us taxpayers. The ANC is just an animal farm, all animals are equal, but some animals more equal than others. Wish they lose in the next election. Batsho ngezisu ezikhulu.
