Mate of mine towed a trailer through a gantry. Got an email claiming that his 10 ton truck was incorrectly registered as a light motor vehicle and he must correct the discrepancy.

Geez, there are just so many things wrong with this system that even in the unlikely event anyone thinks it is reasonable to be a$$ raped every time you drive on a highway that has been there since the 70's they would consider this system an abortion.
Very far fetched, and still illegal because you aren't allowed to have anything within 15cm of the plate.

This: http://www.aartofacts.co.za/chargecodes-list.asp - go through the charge codes - just by not attaching the plates directly to the car you would violate Aarto. I think any traffic-cop with "motivation" could issue you with a ton of fines if they have it in for you.

Yeah cheers, seen that document before. As stated previously however, I was really interested in the common law crime of obstructing the course of justice (OTCOJ). I still believe that merely attaching this device does not constitute the common law crime - there should be a principle offence perpetrated then the act of obstructing the ensuing/envisaged administration/course of justice, or at least an attempt to. Therefore, as some would have it, you already guilty of OTCOJ for some future crime you may/may not even perpetrate.

They can yes... I told them I was going now, as people were expecting me and there was a massive prang in Stanger, so I left.
A lot of people react to that sticker... stopping me in shopping malls asking where they can get one, and how big balls I have to put that on the car.

Been a bit out and about to follow this...no need for PM's to respond to posts, if I do I do, if I choose not to I don't.
Most of my questions were answered, i.e. the cap on tolls etc...
My comparisons to Aus was just to put in perspective that not everything that happens in SA is some corruption brainchild of the ANC. These stuff happen everywhere in the world and no where in the world does a fuel levy/licence/rego etc raise enough money to satisfy our 1st world penchant for cars, and in particular SA raises very much less than most in that regard.
I haven't been satisfied anywhere that the fuel levy would pay for roads and maintenance in SA or vice versa what the fuel levy/licence should be to satisfy it adequately and on top of that would people be prepared to pay such amounts in levy or would that be the next 1,000 page thread.
My view on the so called protests has always been that it is a small 1st world issue in a country with a lot going wrong as 3rd world issues, spend the energy on that.
...which pretty much summarises my views on it.
Firstly unlike the previous government it is a democracy, and the laws are maybe not agreed to by all but they are not 'unjust', so almost sacrilegic to bring Martin Luther King's fight into it...don't make a mockery of real causes because you don't like specific laws.
The ANC is corrupt, I have said it enough, yet people still name call me as if I am some puppet. Stand up to them, don't pretend to be concerned about causes simply because you don't like a little road toll. If you want support from the masses to get an alternative to the ANC, they are not asking you to repay them for the years gone by but they are asking for respect for their position.
The masses of impoverished and, dare I say disenfranchised by virtue of non education, are not that stupid to see that you guys are not fighting for making the country as a whole better, but you bicker about stuff that take away your 1st world privileges. This is one of the reasons they do not trust you and will not side with you.
Apartheid worked for a long time because the resistance to it was intentionally fractured. It was only through concentrated resistance to the real issues that it changed- arguing about petrol prices or traffic laws or Eskom corruption (oh yes there was lots of corruption wasn't there? ) didn't bring it down.
Oh, and call me a chicken runner, you don't know what I contributed in SA, why I left and you do not know my current involvement in real upliftment in SA (teaching people to fish so to say)..because I still love the country.
Enough on that.
...and again if I may compare to Aus...our laws are so much 'stricter' but why don't we notice it? Because people abide by the law. It is not hard.
Behind this 'protest' is also the opportunity to flaunt that law breaking mentality that I have alluded to. Doctors and lawyers openly bragging about not paying fines etc.
Everything is "oh they can't do that", "it is unconstitutional" "they cant tell me how to put on my number plate" etc...Last time I looked the ANC won the last election, vote them out at the next or rally people to do so. If it is unconstitutional take them to High Court.
The laws are democratic, the tolls are legal
Here in AUS, NZ etc you can't even spray a reflective coating on your number plate. We accept it, not that people actually do it with all the cameras around...we just obey the law...its easier.
Actually even that F**k You sticker will land you a fine or court appearance here.
..and on tolls specifically, we are cashless...you either have a tag, get a pass or pay online or at post office after using...no arguments. Unlike ours your tags are cheaper yet you still resist because you want to bog down the system
Obey the small laws and people will obey the big ones...don't complain about corruption and crime when you break laws, that is seen by others.

Tag count on my trip home has increased to 8. 5 of them on company cars.
Sanrail is relying on people registering and buying e-tags.
I think their data migration from eNatis has failed. It appears all they've done is use the VL numbers from gantry usage and matched it against VL numbers to obtain contact details from TMT services, which are also outdated. Explains why people are receiving threats for vehicles they have sold. Even people that haven't registered for any of the TMT services might have received a communication since it's not uncommon for mobile communication companies to recycle numbers. All the while no invoices are forthcoming due to lack of physical addresses.
To save grace Sanrail should own up and admit to what has happened. Hellopeter complaints are growing by the day.

Well they can only possibly arrest you for very old unpaid tolls - so find out what the threshold is, and when you find out about the warrant, pay up to that threshold?
