The Hobbit : 2D or 3D

Well, I'm with Prophet on this one. HFR 3D here we come! :)
The reason being is that the Hobbit was shot for 3D (as someone pointed out) and I trust in Peter Jackson's ability to use technology. So, we'll be losing out on a lot not to try HFR 3D.

Dunno when I'll go though.. it starts today, doesn't it?

As I said earlier, I will be seeing it in ALL possible formats.
Why be forced to make a choice, when you can see it three times anyway! ;)

But you can only have one first..

First for me will always be 2D.
3D allows me to pay attention to the little details that I missed when I was concentrating on the storyline.
But that must come after I have appreciated the movie for the acting, story and general "feel".

I prefer watching movies in 2D, but seeing as this movie was shot in HFR (48fps) 3D and only about 3 cinemas in the country have it running in HFR 3D, I'll have to opt for 3D. Cinema 2 in Monte Casino has the movie in HFR 3D and that's where me and my whole team are heading tomorrow morning... :D

Hi everyone,

I watched the Hobbit in normal 3D last night at Canal Walk, and what I can say is that it was totally awesome, and the 3D was good. Ok, not quite Avatar style, but not like this awful 2d to 3d films either. Sadly only guys in joburg seem to get HFR 3D right now, so maybe it will be in Cape Town by the time the next movie is out.

Cheers

Actually, if you want the best Hobbit experience out there you apparently need to trek to Gateway in Durban...

HFR 3D and Dolby Atmos sound...

Comes at a cost of R70 a ticket (give or take)... so I will be making the trip there next week.

I saw it at Gateway in HFR 3D and it was definitely worth it. Although I must say Im not particularly impressed with ster-kinekors screen setup - i had the distinct impression that the projection was not level. It annoyed me to no level!

According to the Ster Kinekor site here http://www.sterkinekor.com/html/promo_hfr/index.html Its only at Gateway in Sandton. I was under the impression that Sandton was in Joburg. Am I just confused ? Where does Durban come in ?

Uhm, its Gateway AND Sandton. Gateway is a shopping mall in Durban. Sandon City is in JHB.

But these cinemas are at least HFR 3d, right?
South Africa

Cape Town: Ster Kinekor Cavendish
Johannesburg: Ster Kinekor Sandton
Johannesburg: Ster Kinekor The Zone
Pretoria: Ster Kinekor Brooklyn
Umhlanga: Ster Kinekor Gateway

So, we went to see it this morning at Monte Casino. Movie was so-so, but any LOTR fan is guaranteed to enjoy it. They had a bit of trouble getting the HFR projector up and running and almost moved us to another (normal) cinema, but luckily the whole cinema stood together as one and refused to move. They got it running a couple of minutes later. The HFR made it seem very surreal, almost like watching a documentary.

Now he speaks! :(

Ah well we can always catch it again next time we in Durbs :D

Did anyone get the sickness feeling from the HFR as the other sites mentioned?
