Never bring the hot stick anywhere near your tip...
probably not bad advice, but if you need that advice you shouldn't be touching a welder

The best advice I ever got was, " watch the puddle, not the flame."
Other than that practice, practice, practice. It won't take long for you to get decent welds.
I’ve posted a picture in this thread where we did the feature wall with laminate.Going to be cladding my one wall in laminate flooring as a feature wall.
Since it's a plastered wall I think I'm going to first cover the wall in shutterboard or plywood. I can fix that to the wall with screws and wall plugs, and then it's easier for me to use panel pins in the laminate flooring as I glue it down.
Anything have any better ideas?
Wall is 2 x 2.5m.

I was thinking of doing the same, but I'm going to have a basin mounted to mine so need something pretty solid to mount it against.I’ve posted a picture in this thread where we did the feature wall with laminate.
we mounted a tv on the wall as well. So o used batons and then mounted the laminate on them. The gap between the wall and boards a perfect for hiding all cables.
This is a newly plastered wall, how much of an issue is breathing though - what could go wrong?IMO, I’d Make sure the wall can breathe somewhat. You don’t want to suffocate the wall and prevent it from breathing naturally. This is especially important in older homes and if this is an outside facing wall.
WOW, that room looks STUNNINGThat’s the wall we did
It's vinyl planking, sorry, not laminate. Can be used on bathroom floors as well.I would not hang a basin on a laminate wall. The laminate is not fond of water.
So did you manage to get the door lock sorted?Ahhh, what a good idea. That's why I ask you guys for advice.
Haha, would probably hit myself, thanks for the warning.

Ah! Missed that, my apologies, looks like BIL is the man. Give him a Bells!Yes, thank youBIL did it yesterday, was a huge relief to see that door open.
I think he approached it along the lines you suggested but can't be sure. He didn't take the door off its hinges.
See post 3652 for more.
I want to redo the carpet in my room. Which is the cheapest place in Cape Town, that offers carpet and fitting. I'm not really looking for super good quality because I just started working and can't afford it. My current carpet is completely worn out and looks nasty. Around how much should I put aside for a 13ish sq room with fitting included?

I've been through the same, paid tens of thousands to expert "companies" to fix my roof - continued to have issues, now that I'm doing it myself - hardly a problem.BIL could make a fortune as a handy man.
Three roofing companies "fixed a leak" on our roof and it still leaked. BIL climbed up there wearing his slippery moccasins ( what a panic for me watching him as he slithered around) and sealed it properly.
Took him about 30 minutes.
