Normally they replace the entire ceiling and paint walls if water damaged anything. Momentum, Alexander Forbes and Santam never have any issues when I quote for all the above mentioned things with insurance claims.
That's just the thing. There was no water damage anywhere. Geyser drip tray did its job and all the water went out through the over flow pipe.

Only damage was that they had to make the trap door slightly bigger and replaced a 3m x 1.2m section of the ceiling board which was the only thing that needed a new paint job.

Major disappointment with our renovations here... and expensive.

The guys that fitted the Vinyl plank flooring said that the floor doesn't look perfectly level, but they can fit it and we can see how it looks. Well, it turns out the floor is very uneven - with peaks and valleys everywhere. Floor feels spongy all over.

Got a quote now from the flooring people to come out, remove skirtings, lift the floors, self level screed the floors, and replace the floors... R25k

I only owe the builder R12k still, so I can hold that back - but will have to pay the rest out my pocket because he has no money to give back to me. His guys didn't get wages last week, and I'm guessing he's hoping to finish the job this week to get his last R12k.

I only got the floor quote this morning, and the builder hasn't been here yet - but this is going to be a really tough convo.

We're already a month behind schedule, and now the floor can only get fixed next year because the flooring place is booked up and there's no more stock of my vinyl plank.

What an absolute nightmare.

But wait... there's more.

Who needs a ladder when you can just stand on my brand new aircon unit, this happened an hour ago.

Sorry dude. My floor also had been as smooth as a dipped flake. That self leveling screed is amazing and vinyl floors came out perfect. Good luck for remainder. Your builder is not going to have a lekker Christmas that is for sure.

The mind boggles at the absolute fscking stupidity...

Then again I had to resurface my dining room table because it ended up being the perfect height for the guys to use as a platform for putting up the ceiling in my kitchen.

You have to watch these idiots like a hawk, if there is something that they can fsck up by not thinking, they bloody well will.

Aw noooooooooo!!!!!!!! That would be the last straw for me.

The b@st@rd who did it should be kicked off site and not allowed back. The longer those builders are there the more money you’re losing.

can’t you tell them to fsk off?

Same boat - and mine is just a wall and filling a pit. So over the industry.

Brings back memories of all the **** my crappy builders guys got up to when we did the kitchen. (walking over just tiled rooms, etc)

Don't you rather want to take on my builder now for your job, then he can use your progress payments towards my build

Yeah, really hoping it gets sorted before next week. I did not feel like going into the new year with this.

It's madness, the ladder is like 3m away from where he was.... but nope, too much effort.
If I had just looked left when I walked out the back door I would have seen him on the aircon, but I didn't... was busy talking to another guy.

Have a video of it on cctv, but don't know how to upload a video here easily.

Stupidity bordering on sabotage

Like the domestic we had who opened the dishwasher and used the door as a step so she could reach into the cupboards.....

I can kick him off, but it's going to cost me more to get someone else to finish. Or I spend the next 3 weeks doing it myself. But at this rate he's going to end up costing me anyway... it's a pain man.

Its literally just stupidity...

The absolute lack of further consequence to the actions.

This is here right now and is the right height for what I want so I will use it. No thought paid to the fact that the bracket is designed to carry 30 or 40kgs, not 130-150kgs. or the dishwasher is not meant to be stood on etc etc...

The number of really fscking stupid things I've seen over the years when I was a lowly IT contractor working on construction sites blew my mind.

Well the repair to the aircon comes out of his money owed at least... but the problem is now he will cut corners to try recover that cash.

Happened with my sons bunk bed, snapped a couple of the planks.

Makes me seeth at times.

I intend having some work done early next year, and I will make sure the area and the path to the area is absolutely clear of anything and everything.

Oh it's frustrating as hell, got them replace all the planks they broke. Also what gets to me is them not cleaning up afterwards, yeah sure you put the pvc ceiling in. But you do need to clean off your hand marks and the barcode would be nice.
It's like arrrrgh.

They will find a way to damage something... trust me. These builders are rough on taps as well, I don't know if they try bungy jump off the stuff or what... but your outside tap is going to take a beating if they use it.
