How much did the kitchen cost excl appliances etc
Well we stripped the previous kitchen to the bare walls and redid it from scratch, excluding appliances it's about R310k. This is a big kitchen though, including scullery it's a 8.5m by 4.5m rectangle.

Another update, wrapping up now, another week and we should be done.

Beautiful. One question, is there a reason why is your hob not centered , on the horizontal plane by which I mean why is it located to the left of the island? Always thought it would be centered as that way I would have space to put stuff on either side when cooking (like how my current one is)?

Personal preference, we chose to put it off center as there is a pop up plug on that island as well for appliances. Idea is to have a large work area to the side, sink behind and fridge nearby.

Mine is that same... It's off in the corner... Purely to maximize usable space on the island...

My back is knackered after getting this done over the last week.
Previous owner buried the tank 50cm into the ground, with the bottom outlet against the foundation of the house

After (yes, fake lawn because dog and Cape Town):

I was worried about the angle of the standard downpipe bends not working to get the downpipe routed into the tank, but I was lucky - just made it.

Still need to secure the booster pump, it's leaning forward so that's why the pipes are bent.

My plumbing skills aren't very good, so was happy to find these speedfit pipes and fittings. Not cheap but made it easy for me to DIY the two taps I have running off the pump.

Different angle on the island

Our kitchen is about the same size, ended up costing about R600k including appliances - and doesnt look as good. We got seriously screwed by the useless incompetent builder. If we stay in the house longer than 5 more years I'll probably end up doing the kitchen again.

Anyone know the regulations of a gas geyser near the gas bottles? Wanting to install a small gas geyser outside the kitchen - but its quite close to the gas source.

River sand foundation with a concrete border?

I also put in astro - best decision ever. No more watering, weeds, mud.

Only issue is if the kids want to camp outside, you have to use bricks instead of pegs :X3:

Yip, the astro does need a bit of a hose down every now and then though for the dog wee smell.
What is not great at all though is dog diarrhea on the astro... that's a bit cr@ppy.

Yeah, the builder makes or breaks it. Happy with the one we have, should have listened to him more at the start of the process.

Weirdly, I dictated to my builder to the point that he almost walked off site...

Then again, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to be done, and I was considerably more versed in SANS 10400 and the building regs in Durban....
