seems excessive for a standard melamine unit

eg: https://www.builders.co.za/Home-and-Decor/Furniture-&-Built-in-Cupboards/Built-In-Cupboards/HK-Standard-Built-In-Cupboard---White-(1820-x-500-x-2100mm)/p/000000000000018792

The problem is you are comparing mass produced cheap as chips products to his requirement.
They wont fit his space he has available. It would have been great to make a precut flatpack unit fit.

Get hold of carpenter. He will give you a precise cut list, you give cut list to builders warehouse and they will cut it for you. Transport (if no bakkie) would be 500 rands. It will not cost more than 5500 as per my guestimate, incl labor. 9000 is way expensive. Labor charges are probably 1200-1400. It is day job to use these cut melamine boards and fit as per dimensions that @Tander mentioned.

i was mearly showing costing of a prebuilt unit to gauge pricing, obviously a custom unit will be better and likely double the price, but not 3-4 times

Hey guys,

I have a wall which is showing signs of damp (paint bubbling), on the other side of the wall is a shower, so i presume there must be some sort of leak.

Whats the approach for determining what to do here? From what i understand its usually an issue with the tiling on the floor - so is the option to apply some sort of sealer or re-tile? Or is there more to this?

Doing some budgeting - and would like the to finish off the office, so need to decide on flooring.

What's the going rate at the moment for a good tiler? Measured the room again 13.5m2 - shouldn't take more than a day.

at what height is the damp showing? i would start by checking the grouting

waterproofing a shower has a bit more to it, behind the tiles there are a few methods of waterproofing that should have been applied

take whatever you paid for the tiles per square and work on that as a guide, but i have had quotes from anything from R60 a square (without old removal) to R250 a square

What size tiles are you looking at? Straight labour only cost? With old tile removal? Floor levelling needed?

Yup, pretty much this from my experience...

I would avoid the R60 per sqm guys though, they can't get anything level for fsck all...

The damp is showing on the bottom of the wall, not much more then 0.5m from the ground up.

I think i see some gaps in the grouting

Same size as these, long and narrow, think about 1m.

Labour only, and previous tiles removed.

regrout as a start then, clean out as much of the old grout as you can and reapply

From what I've read - it seems to be illegal to issue one if they're not capable of doing so - so if he turns out not to be a registered electrician - I'd take it MUUUCH further.
So I contacted the electrician again, told him I've contacted the ECB regarding the COC, he basically came out today and has spent 8 hours so far going through things. He just needs to sort out some lights now and should be a valid COC.

I'd get a second electrician in after that.

I had my marbellite pool lined with fiberglass 4 years ago. Now it looks as per the attached image. That image is on the deepend of the pool. The most damage seems to be on the steps though.

The place where I had it done (a recommended reputable pool company) does not exist anymore. Warranty gone.

Any thoughts? I'm really not keen to spend another R35k to have it redone again.

Water is obviously getting from the shower into the walls.

The first is to check the grout as has been mentioned. I had the same issue - twice actually in different houses, little holes the size of the head of a pin. You could barely see it. Water is a bastard and it managed to get into those tiny holes and caused the paint on the wall to bubble and peel.
As your issue is lower, check the grout where the wall meets the floor.

Scratch out the old grout and mix the new grout with a bonding liquid which will improve the water resistance of the new grout.

If it is not the grout, you either have a leak in the water pipes that are in the wall or the waste pipe that takes the water out of the shower as a hole and the water is leaking into the ground and finding its way into the walls.

I'm not sure what we're looking at? Blistering or cracking?
