That looks absolutely stunning and you completed it in record time.
Thanks. It will take a while for the plants to get established and over grow all the plastic sheeting. I wanted it to look as natural as I could get it. The last pond I built was a perfect rectangle with just a pump and filter. This one will only use natural filtration from the plants removing all the nitrates from the water to keep it clear of algae. UV light is not installed but hopefully it will not be needed.

I still need to install a permanent power point for the pump and install the lights.

You also keep bees..??

Brave man..
You didn't see my backyard beekeeping thread?

Does anybody have any experience with skim plastering and the costs involved in the last year?

House we put in an offer for has those 80s/90s rough plaster and I'm not about that life lol.

We have tge same...

It's like sand paper if you scrape the wall

The house I bought before this one had that on every.single.wall.
There where two kinds in the end. The first kind was done with soft plaster (like rhinolite), easy to scrape off with a putty knife or scraper. The other was done with cement. I ended up rhinoliting over that.
Honestly its not that hard to skim a wall. It takes a bit of time and your back will feel it for a few days, but it took me an hour or two (after watching some youtube about it) to get the hang of it.

I had that in a previous house. I ground it off using a dry use diamond impregnated 400 grit sanding disk and a polisher with a Velcro sander attachment. Took about an hour for a large wall and the result was a brilliantly smooth wall. I’ve used the same disk for other jobs and you can barely notice any wear on it.

This is the same disk I used for that and many other sanding jobsimage.jpg

This one I haven’t used yet but it’s 1000 grit used to polish concrete

Do you use it on a grinder? I tried a similar disk, just with one row of "teeth" and it quickly digs into the plaster making holes. I'm guessing yours makes it easier.

But damn, the dust.

What's going rate to pay a tiler per Sqm these days?

What's going rate to pay a tiler per Sqm these days?

a general rule of thumb i have seen is take the tile cost per square and use that as the tiling cost.

I do agree though R55m² on an untiled surface sounds very very reasonable, i would prob say R100m² would be my limit unless they fancy tiles or something intricate. I prob wouldnt pay more than R20-30m² for stripping a floor unless it included like rubble removal etc

I was quoted R55m² by a good tiler who did work for me before.

I was also told R180m² by a guy who wanted to rob me blind
Where are you based? As R55 isn't bad at all?

Thanks gents.

I am in the process of getting labour costs for renovating a bathroom. It's quite shocking how much prices can differ, thus far the cheapest is R20k and most expensive R100k. Labor only
