That picture that was posted was a gate in a frame. Thats the right way.

Have a look at the pictures on the Trelly door website, you'll see the gates are framed all the way around.

The only other thing to mention is, if you are using a standard door lock the gate needs to have a brace behind the lock so that the door can't be "bent" open with a crowbar.
So if you look at the picture again it looks like there is a 50x25 tube running across the gate in line with the lock.
 
I received a quote to replace gutters, down pipes and barge boards. The also attached a letter about a sharp price increase. Do you think it is correct or they pushing for business?

There has been a increase in steel prices, though I'm not sure how much.

There are shortages of building materials worldwide at the moment.
So its entirely possible that this is the case.

Yes, that's correct. Steel prices increased twice since last year with this recent one being a bigger jump thatln the previous.

You're actually lucky to be getting it before July, some suppliers must be selling their "old stock" at the old rates. Alot of places increased in May already.

From a steel price point of view they're 100% right... Price is just volatile as fsck atm and there are shortages worldwide.

The guys from
Sleeperwarehouse.co.za in pretoria installed my fireplace back in 2012, at the time, they had the best price, job was done professionally, fireplace has been working well ever since.
 
I'm renovating a small old house and have two questions if I may.
1. What is the latest and greatest way to paint an old asbestos big six roof after it has been high pressure stripped...and
2. After sanding an old oregon pine floor what is the best way to treat it in a bedroom?

Need some advise please.

Best treatment for rusted gutters?

Outside ok but inside rusted. Was thinking of some kind of rust treatment and then some (eco) rubber paint but not sure if this is best course of action. Need to extend their life by a few more years until lotto pays out.
 
Are they not possibly cast iron?
They may not require inner paint, but could possibly clean and coat with an etch primer like NS4 and overcoat with what the can recommends.
