Disclaimer - I now very little about alarms

What brand of alarm, IDS?
Comms via cell would include Wi-fi or cellular module. Cellular link is nice but additional monthly expense (that is on HYYP /IDS)

Very cheap if it include installation as well but I think 805 is older model limited to 8 zones.

8 zones will be fine seeing its a 3 bedroom home

im not sure what brand. its from one of the security companies

and yes the alarm would be linked to an app to control ..apparently doesnt need wifi as its linked to satellite but phone needs data

A zone is a slot for a single sensor

so where in the house do you need

Room 1,2 and 3

Bathroom 1 and 2

lounge

Kitchen

Outhouse *3

Garage

lounge
entrance hall

so you count each one as a zone ?

Each PIR (That thing that detects movement) is normally on it's own zone. You can double up on them but you'd rather want every single detector on it's own ZONE.

Each passive, door sensor etc counts as a zone.. in your case, you have already used 4 zones, as you were quoted on 2 passives and 2 door sensors..

And no, you don't need to have something every where, it purely depends on what you want covered..

I have one passive in the hall, which will trigger when an intruder walks out of any the bedrooms and one in the lounge, which will trigger if they come through any of the lounge windows or kitchen/front door but, as an earlier alert, I also have door sensors and over and above all of that, I have beams covering the front and backyard..

This is all about layers and being warned about intrusion as early as possible..

In my case, I have used 8 zones already and will need to expand in future, so have a 16 zone panel to cover that expansion..

If you think you are adequately covered with only internal sensors and don't care about early detection of intrusion in the front and backyard then you are probably okay with 8 zone panel..

so as far as i am aware the beams are quite pricey these days

in CPT some of the areas are not so bad to have so much security

but in time its best to have as much as you can

Each can have multiple zones.

Depending on what you want, but to give you an idea.

1. You want to know there is an intruder before he enters your house, so PIRs are really last line of defence.

Start with, beam sensors outside the house. If you do not have an electric fence, otherwise that would be 1st line.

I have a square yard, so 2x beams is enough. 1 on each opposite corner and they cover a square around the house. So thats 2 sensors used

2. Next line is to get something that detects when they enter, but before they move inside the house.
So door and window magnets. With these you can have multiple linked to the same sensor input, but generally not. So you want 1 for each exterior window and door. But if lounge have lets say 2 doors, they can be linked to a single sensor.

Ps. I also did Garage doors and windows. Some thieves specialise in only entering garages to steal stuff...like tools to break into the next house.

3. Last line, PIR sensors inside each room of the house.

My system can take 64 sensors, I am using about 24. So a 32 zone system should be fine. But also, this system set me back closer to R30k with install taking 3-4 days from what I remember.

So maybe spend a bit more time in thinking on where you want sensors, what you want.

The system they quoted you on, is just an excuse to make money and get something installed that really won't do you any good. Why have all these sensors inside, not even everywhere, but nothing outside?

No one does, because it comes down to your requirements and since that's unlikely to be the same for everyone, no one can accurately tell you that..

Then there is also the quality of the brands used and the brand name products etc..

Get a few different companies to quote to get a better comparison..

Let me think:

8 outdoor perimeter beams
10 Indoor PIRs
5 doors
6 clear armed bars

Plus a couple others I won't mention for security reasons...

The price of living with a paranoid wife...

8 perimeter beams seems a bit excessive..?

You have a massive yard with that many entry points that require coverage..?
