yeah, kind of going with something like that

but just going stock standard 100mm PVC with a slight slope from the 'collection' point and that will run into some kind of housing in ground for the pump

not the fanciest solution or most expensive, but it unfortunately has happened with heavy downpour that it almost runs into the house because of water damming up

just got a submersible pump that is rated for dirty water and 250l/min I think so should be sufficient

Ahh if you have the pump, then you're halfway there with the solution...

If you're looking for some form of "enclosure" to hold the pump, I would honestly say go and investigate just one of the Kaytech Inflitrators... They weren't very expensive when I got them, and they are designed to let water drain into the soil as well, so double bonus and you may need to run the pump considerably less often.

As some may know, I have an above ground pool..

It's in the back corner of my property and I can't be arsed to try and get grass growing in between the pool and the boundary walls and the associated maintenance thereof, which would be a headache, considering its about a meter and half space at most..

Going to dump some drainage rocks instead, just to keep the sand covered and avoid it from blowing about.. however, they are rather sharp so don't want them to be up against and almost under the pool edges:

Amy ideas as to making a ledge or lip of some sorts up against the pool, maybe between the legs, to prevent the drainage chips from contacting the pool..? I have some bricks laying about and currently thinking of using this as the ledge, just want some other bright ideas as well..

I think bricks/paving stones would be the best bet for keeping the drainage stone away from the pool material tbh. Anything else will probably end up costing considerably more money.

What about thin plate strips that you rivet onto the legs ?

I thought this as well. Thin aluminium strip wrapped around the edge, riveted to the legs.

I did this to my driveway gate to keep the mangy street dogs from sticking their snouts through the bottom of the gate above the track. It's not cheap though, I think it was around R110 per running meter for a 6.5cm wide piece.

Speaking of pumps - anyone know of a decent portable pump that I can use to empty some rainwater from the solid pool cover into the garden?

The cost made me rule this out already, as well as having to drill out rivets if ever needing to take the pool down for some reason..

Buy some pool noodles and cable tie them around the perimeter of the pool? Unless you have dogs in which case maybe cover them in chicken mesh first:ROFL:

Pavers then ? Cheapest option i suppose.
Or.... these thin sticks, gumpoles ? Those they use to make lawn edgings. Get a couple of lengths, cut them the size between the legs and cable tie it.

Do you have the drainage rocks? What about river sand instead with a little cement mixed in?

My Labrador chews through anything he sees fits.. lost two pool noodles within a day of having bought them..

I forgot about those lawn trim poles.. will see what costing for that comes to..

Yes, the drainage rocks.. want to stay away from sand as I have a toddler who will dig it all up anyway and likely dump some in the pool too.. I'd much rather be taking rocks out the pool than toy dump trucks full of sand..

How about river stones, they’re rounded and you can find them at most nurseries and building supplies. Or get them from a river

Good idea but those are proper expensive too... if you want a decent depth you go through a lot more bags than you expect.

so you just want something to prevent the pool from being contacted?

see the idea of sheet metal mentioned, so what about using something like under tile flashing and making a single cut on the 1 edge so that you can wrap it leg to leg

Best bet would be to build a one brick high concrete foundation and putting the pool on that.

checked their charts and unfortunately they seem just a tad big for the area I want it used

was thinking something like this: https://leroymerlin.co.za/pvc-junction-90-square-ug-81411530

from a collection point

or this: https://leroymerlin.co.za/rainwater-pit-pvc-black-waterform-81410918

but yeah, still waiting :(

Ahhh yes, those rainwater "collectors" are also good.. I have a few of them, and they work quite well actually. I Bought mine from Builders a good long while ago.

I obviously don't know your space at all, but the one reason I suggest something like the Infiltrator is that you will get some great grass/plants growing above it as the ground will be nicely irrigated from underneath... the grass above my string of them is permanently lush.
