Harvery tiles over thatch, whats your guys opinion?

personally I want the thatch out, but the wife likes it and I do agree sitting under a thatch is nice than sitting under a steel roof.

My dad sent me a pic of his last project. I wish that someday I will also be able to do such amazing carpentry - he is on another level.

Everything was done by him from scratch, joining the 3 pieces of wood for the top etc.

Been wanting to do this for a while now. My thatch is shaded by fairly large trees and takes long to dry in the rainy season. I think it will be cheaper in the long run to replace with harvey tiles rather than rethatch every few years.

so apparently you can it either buy removing all the thatch, or by removing a layer of thatch and putting the harvey tiles over it, i think this would keep the same feel and coolness.

That's a real work of art. You don't often see things made with such care.

Anyone know where I can get neat conduit - instead of the ugly general type?

I know builders sell a half round and quarter round - but they don't sell the actual angle connectors

you can cut the angles? a little bit of silicone to neaten it up if you need.

Ellies have it. Builders used to have the connectors as well.

Exactly what I'm looking for - the D-Line series is what I currently have - I wonder if you can take a half to a quarter with a connector.

The builders by me is useless - they might actually have the item.... the staff are always unhelpful.

It'll be in a walk way - so want it as neat as possible - and with a baby crawling all over the show, I'd prefer it as secure as possible. But this is my backup.

fair enough, personally i feel it can appear seamless if you do it right, and nothing will be as secure as some silicone tidy up :p

I've got the quarters running along the walls and across the sliding door i put the smaller of the halfs that they had. I did not see any connectors to join the two.

I need some help please...

I'm going to break out 15cm floor tiles... 60sqm in total.

Then I need to chip off all tile cement to keep the same level. (For complex reasons)

Can I do this with a rotary hammer and chisel attachment, and what do you think of buying:
Ryobi 1500W (~6 Joule) at around R1800 , vs a Bosch 650W (~2.7 Joule) around R2200

Buy two heavy hammers and chisels, pick up two day labourers from the nearest hardware store and put em to work.. will cost you 1k and zero blood, sweat and tears..

Thanks - was thinking of running a half across the floor to the skirting boards, then dremeling out the one quarter.... and runnig the quarter from there at a 90 degree angle.

That quick? Well in that case I don't need anything since I have someone working on Saturdays and this will be done in 2 sections.

Based on the posts online though, it seems a lot slower than 3sqm/h for thinset removal, since they claim 10X faster removal once switching to a rotary hammer.

Grinder + vacuum looks even easier and leaves a level surface.. if I could find that somehow.

It is slower but a country mile and will probably take your guy 3 or 4 sessions to remove.

I would suggest a decentish rotary hammer like this Makita... : https://www.builders.co.za/Tools/Po...ill-with-SDS-Plus-(780w)/p/000000000000402869

They cost a fair chunk of change, but you will get the job done quickly enough and be left with a great drill/hammer drill/chisel at the end of it.
