I don't do pools but my in laws (brother and father) are both in the industry. For the staining he asked for a few of my guys to help and he had them clean the pool with acetone. Man was I impressed.
So some acetone and decent gloves (gloves are very important) and this could easily be a diy to clean the stains. Oh also some masks for the acetone smells.

Alternatively some cheap labourers can do this for you as opposed to the pool guys charging you 3.5k for it. That was his price for that specific job.

I need some thoughts. Got a quote to renovate my patio area that needs urgent attention and got the following provisional quote. Going a bit back and forth with the builder. My question is, are the costs for the braai and the "carport" roof reasonable? The roof is big, like 7x4 probably. It's a brick braai but includes the turbo cowl and everything.


Break down braai and rebuild 1.5m braai with cowl 15,800.00
Build a work bench and tile 1,800.00
Fix front wall 1,400.00
Rise wall and plaster 5,460.00
Remove carport and fit new carport with gutter and down pipe 30,400.00
Build 3 columns with concrete foundation 6,800.00
Rubble removal 4,000.00

I bough a 3 bag filter for my small pool not to long ago. replaced the cartridge filter. 3bag filter was less than 3K

The carport and rubble removal seem quite excessive to me. The carport you can get done for around 10k less and rubble removal probably half the price. I'm cape Town rubble removal trips are about R500 per load on a h1 hyundai. Just judging by your post that sounds like 2 loads of rubble but I'm playing safe with 4 trips @R500 each.

Can't comment on the rest because I don't really know what his idea is with the braai and walls. However the building and plastering seems on par
 
Fix one issue in an old toilet and discover another. Water is slowly leaking into the bowl, turns out that was probably the problem all along.

some of it seems excessive, guys like this that charge extra for rubble removal etc are sharks, they should build it into the price.

you can literally hire a small skip for R500, hire 2 and that is like an easy 6-8 bakkie loads

the carport should be more like R10k-15k

the building work is so so, a little high but if done properly is worth it

Some prices seem OK... Others would need a bit more info...

As for the rubble removal, you would be surprised how much rubble you generate. I think in my renovations I have removed about 30 6 cubic meter truck loads....

But I would not pay the builder to remove the rubble.. 4000 is easily 8 loads worth of a 4 ton truck from the right guy, my newest rubble removal guy does it for r400 a load.

Yup, I had to call in a plumber cause I couldn't get the tap off the wall as it seems the previous owner siliconed it in the pipe wtf!!!. R650 for about 15 minutes work to basically break the tap and replace a new one. As the old tap wouldn't shut down the water.
I keep thinking a house built in the early 80s isn't that old, but looking at how building standards have changed and how things detoriate over 30 years :-(. Even toilets are different, the insides I've been slowly replacing are completely different now compared to the 20+ year old previous insides. Same as the old pool filter thing was ancient and covered in silicone.

100%.. Dumping at the main municipal dump in Durban..

But with the reduced cost comes a level of unreliability in terms of when they arrive... So they say 8am and by 11am they may rock up...

Did a tad more than that but yes it's gone. Was in the way and ugly, still plenty cupboards with the new ones on the wall.

Now to finish the bathroom...
