how do you "join" the sections?

Should i remove the old "flashing" or go over this one?

So once i have washed/scraped it off - shouldi do anything other than a paint primer to prep it?

The nutec is the same as rhinoboard builds. Use wood or the steel studs.

Some guys go over the old flashing. Best and correct way is to remove it. The membrane doesn’t last forever and eventually will lift off taking your new work along with it. No need to prime, the first coat will be your priming coat.

once paint is washed off. There shouldn’t be much that needs scraping, but if there is it will be very little to do. Fix up cracks and chips Then prime and paint as per normal.

You have to use the right spray lance. The cheaper units only come with the standard lance.
I used the dirt blaster lance to remove some flaky roof paint from my roof tiles.

Dirt blaster with powerful top rotary nozzle for Kärcher pressure washers in class K 7. For particularly stubborn dirt like that on mossy or weathered surfaces.

I used the dirt blaster for paving maintenance. It works fine. But when doing a wall you want the bulk of the crap off and the karcher sadly doesn’t do this. Trust me I’m a huge karcher fan but it just doesn’t compare

Ah, thanks, even the bigger Kutcher models? Was planning on buying one for house painting, cleaning, etc.

They work but take a lot longer than the compressor. So if you’ve got time and energy to do scraping after then the karcher will be fine. To me personally the R250 hiring cost is worth 2 day saving of labour.

Generally agree on this..

My karcher is great for standard stuff...same like pretty much all the tools I have.
When I want to do something very specific that is just at the edge of my tools capability, I will go and hire the tools instead.

sorry @Smokey mcpot just wanted to also ask about the ridge of the roof, how best to prep it, should i fill any missing mortar then "flash harry" the whole ridge with membrane? or just mortart missing peices or should i only "flash harry" it?

What are the opinions on pvc gutters and downpipes? with the outdoor renovation work i am weighing options of

- strip, fix and paint current
- replace current with metal
- replace current with pvc

I would go seamless aluminum in a heartbeat if I could. Justify the cost...... Pvc are perfectly acceptable though and what I went with in the end..

Even instead of painting I recommend just buying new pvc gutters instead. It’s cheap enough, will be less of a hassle and will look much neater. If I’m the budget seamless is the way to go

what do you guys think the cost per meter for seemless is roughly?

without fittings etc it looks like (material cost - diy install):
pvc ~R50 p/m
galvanised ~R35 p/m

The major difference is obviously that the galvanised would need to be primed and painted

They've been up about 3 years... I went with round purely due to availability at the time....

Honestly I never really notice them so they've largely blended into the house even though they're unpainted

Any advice on a wet bathroom? We redid our bathrooms two years ago - but the ensuite is like a steam room... the roof is literally dripping with water the next morning (and that's from showering the morning before).

I fitted a 20cm extractor during the renovation - and the window is open from morning till evening... Only thing I can think of is putting in a bigger extractor.

that doesnt sound right at all... i have a small bathroom and normally like 15-20 minutes after a shower it is cleared up with only the door open. I assume/recall you are at the coast?

Yeh - the steam is cleared out quite fast - but the roof remains wet till the next morning

yeah i mean like all the condesation on the walls etc is mostly gone etc. are you venting into the roof?

No - out the wall - flat roof house, there's about 30-40cm between the ceiling and roof sheets - but its inaccessible.

have you ever had damp issues with the walls itself? Regardless of showering.

Sounds like there may also not be any insulation then..? If so, find a way to get insulation in there..

Condensation on the ceilings occur when the warm air from the room Interacts with the ice cold ceiling.. getting insulation in there would be the best option to mitigate..
