This would also prevent the gate from being lifted. I may also drill a hole right through it and the gate from the side so I can put a bolt with a padlock or chain through it to lock for potential motor troubles or if I go away on holiday.

Most steel fabrication places should be able to make it for you.

I'm in Somerset West and use a place here in Strand.

yeah i think you are gonna struggle to find this easily, i think it is known as a gate keep or gate receiver. I would just make one myself personally or get a local handy man type guy who is good at welding and steel work

Definitely will need to have it made I think.
Wouldn't mind learning to weld, but I seldom do any metal work DIY stuff.
 
When using a pop riveter I have never used the washers before
What's the purpose of them?

Do you use them?
 
Another question, when using the Connect-It Fittings do people use those plastic pins they sell? I would think using a pop riveter would be much stronger.

That plastic is pretty soft and you would pull a rivet straight through it.. unless you use the washers.. however, as I am sure you noticed, lot of the fittings are not open on the end, to allow you to get a washer on the end.. further to that, how do you get a washer in there and located, since you can only stick the rivet in when you have the fitting in the tube.. will have to get creative, maybe nnecessarily so..

Oh is the washer used underneath?
I assumed it was on top.

Got me confused now

i would use what is provided, i don't think riviting them would be entirely practical

yeah it goes on the back, not the front, the rivet has its own "washer" as the rivet face, you get rivets with wider faces, but you could use a rivet in front if you needed i guess no real harm
