What is this called, water runs into here and down to the gutter. Just called a channel? Or is there a different name for it.

I already have got one quote, but it's shockingly high; though the work & materials seem quite extensive & involved. So I basically want it done right, but at the same time I want to be sure I'm not being 'taken to the cleaners', so to speak.

Just a pity you're in CPT. My guy subcontracts for big roofing companies. I met him doing a major job at one of the elite JHB schools. Asked him to do a private job.

I was getting quotes in the 70k price range. He sorted me for 17k and gave a 3 year guarantee. That was 6 years back. My roof still solid.

I would recommend him to anybody around JHB. He taught me that Flash Harry and other acrylic based products are ultimately ****.

Progress has been a bit slow with all the rain. The pool was completely empty, so that just direct rainfall

Finally made further progress, after @Smokey mcpot moved the plug and light switch for me..

Got the painting done and dusted, new light fitting, light switch and plug installed..

Cupboard, skirting and floating shelf for TV still on the to do list..

All I did was create dust on those floors

Next up the ceiling and cornice... but first my unwanted holiday
 
Looking for composite decking, installed (GP).

There are just too many results popping up when searching.

Anyone got some supplier/installer tips here ?
 
How do you guys feel about tile skirting (see example pic) instead of conventional wooden skirting.

We are planning on tiling our main bedroom in the next week or so. But not a big fan of wooden skirtings.

My (newly) tiled rooms all have tile skirting. Looks much neater and won't deteriorate like wood. I had the tiler cut the pieces to the correct size, then chamfer the outer edge so whoever cleans it won't cut themselves

Also, the adhesive layer on the skirting section was much thinner, maybe 1mm or so. No gap on the top for dirt and dust

The top was also run past a fine grit sander so the top was smooth

Honestly not really a fan hey, maybe it's just always done badly. I prefer wooden skirting.

The sides of tiles aren't finished nicely, so you have this ugly bit sticking up which you either leave or paint with wall colour?

It's a preference thing though I'd imagine

Your tiler will hate you, but it would like amazing if the tile skirting grout lines match up with the grout lines of the tiles on the floor.. simpler when you are tiling in a square as is typical, little more effort if going with a diagonal like the example pic..

That is really neat yes, but when doing wooden skirtings I prefer to have it exactly like in the pic, where it continues into the door frames. Having just the wooden skirting not matching the door frames just seems likes something is missing... well at least to me.

I've got tiled skirtings upstairs and then wooden skirtings downstairs. Wither way works for me if done right.

Thanks, I did the skirting and door frames myself. Definitely agree with the woodwork all matching up nicely. I have steel door frames in the original part of the house, now those I hate...so much.

Maybe if it was a nice tile specifically chosen for the skirting, then I'd be more keen. Otherwise it gives me a vibe of "ag I don't need to go buy skirting, I have all these offcut tiles laying here that I may as well use"
