Throw the shock it around the edge of the pool AFTER backwash and rinse, wait 10 min then add the soda ash as instructed on the back. Kids can swim after 10min.

so backwash and rinse

then throw the shock it (soda ash cant be used on fibreglass they say)

and the alkilinity up ?

must that stay over night ?

also after backwash and rinse

can both be thrown same time

Some people have staining issues with that, a good old floater is the best solution for general upkeep. And once every week or even two weeks just check with the HTH strips what you need and adjust accordingly.

i nought hth the big 25kg bucket

the other guy told me he throws only hth chlorine and a floater and thats it

Yeah once your ph is under control you’ll rarely need to add ash or acid or generally anything other than chlorine.

@I.am.Sam - Fill your pool now (with sand and rubble) ..Tell your wife, you don't know what happened after adding the chemicals MyBB guys told you to add them. Long term problems will be solved forever not to mention the dent in your pocket (electricity, chemicals, general stress when it's not clean and clear)

How does the water in your pool look right now?

Sure the ph is a bit low but that soda ash stuff can kick it up so quick its not even funny. Like do not throw in too much at a time. Well thats what I learned the hard way.

Nowadays I chill.
* Once after leaf falling season I empty all the leaf catcher stuff. Basically once a year for me, 2nd/3rd week of November. Only needed if you have trees with leaves going to the pool.
* Always have a floater. Replace when its empty and well you will see.
* Backwash and rinse once a month (I am lazy, do it like every 2nd month). I actually have this timed now. 2 minutes is exactly enough to clean out the sand. Then another 2 minutes of rinsing.
* Winter months I have a cover on so no green stuff starts growing, just maybe a layer of dust if pump doesnt run. Also no backwashing/rinsing since pump never runs.

Thats basically all I do. Pump runs whenever sun allow which is most days in summer here in cape town.

When I messed with acid and ph-up and stuff I just wasted money. Do none of that anymore. Pool is clear so all is happy.

Pool after removing cover begin November. Pump ran. So it looked like this.

Some manual vacuuming with attachment. Done.

This only happens once a year, and only because if you move that dust in the water it loses its clean crystal clear look

your pics broken or something

so got someone out to check and they said dont need that shock or alkiline stuff. charged me r150 which wasnt bad

she said just get the floater and add hth almost every day about 2-3 cups

and also some pool acid

and filter for few hours a day

the backwash and rinse is simple and should be done every week

As you get experience with your pool , you will adapt.

For me , I backwash, when I know loads of crud has gotten into pool (rain related ) .. right now , my pool (10.5 X 6m) is at the brim - backwashed for 10 minutes 4 days in a row last week due to amount of water in pool. I could have just sent the water to waste, but might as well clean the sand.

Look for the small little glass bottle that is normally attached near the selector that shows you how dirty your pool sand is. Right now when I doing a backwash , my sand is spotless. Last week it took about 5 minutes on the first run before it started getting clear.

Have fun!!

Floater and 2 to 3 cups a day? Is your pool more like a lake or dam?
Adding acid and chlorine makes no sense

For our fiberglass lined pool, I only use Clear4Weeks, one sachet in the weir each Friday and a floater chlorine that lasts 2 months on average; no issues unless there's very heavy rain for days. Pool is on for 6 hrs a day in summer, backwash and rinse once a week

The best way to maintain a pool is to close it.
I hate our stupid pool so much.

Has been used 4 times in 3 years

I guess my pool party invite must have gotten lost in the mail.

Stupid Post Office:crying:

Welcome to be my new home infinity pool. Guess another 15 min backwash is in order. IMG_20211202_061003.jpg

My understanding for pools is:
- Always first get the Total Alkalinity (TA) correct.
- Then the Ph says stable.
- I don't use floaters (because I have a solid cover, and don't loose much water). Floaters can add too much stabilizer.
- I only add plain HTH chlorine after the pool has been used.
- I highly recommend a cover for the pool - less debris in the pool, and the sun doesn't destroy the free chlorine.
- I only backwash when I notice the kreepy is running slowly

Ps. A pool that is very acidic normally looks great, but is very harsh on the skin and plastics. Maybe pool installers just dump in acid to get the pool clear.
