Can't see how it can be that much more expensive. My mother's pool got converted from Marbelite to fibre glass after the Marbelite started chipping off.
The expensive part is the labour. If you're going to drain it and pay the labour, you may as well put a better surface in. Even if the surface itself costs a bit more...

Most expensive part was actually renting those water storage bags. 75000 litre pool was done by two guys, seven 20 litre drums fibreglass stuff and hardener used in two days. Almost five years ago now it was just over R30 000. Also with fibreglass one uses way less chemicals so definitely worth it.

On that note: What maintenance is there on a jacuuz that's worse from having a pool ?

Draining and cleaning it out periodically. You can pump out only so much using the pump, the last bit is below the intake so its manual scooping, its an absolute pain in the rear. Then wiping it all down and topping it off again, which feels like it takes years

Labour on this is gonna be hefty though, so it will prob come out more expensive than marbelite or fibreglass

I was following discussions on this one and asked one of the guys who quoted me for marbelite pool. As per him, tiling would cost me about 30K more for a 8mx3m pool.

Also, not a single pool in our complex has a fully tiled pool, based on answers on our WA group.
I agree that tiling would be the most expensive option if labour were factored in. It's just so nice if labour is free...
Also, if a person plans to stay in the house for a long time, the additional high cost is offset due to the much longer lifespan of the tiles.

I also agree that very few domestic pools are tiled. However, there must be a reason why so many public and resort pools are tiled... My pool looks every bit as good now as 5 years ago, when the tile job was completed.

I had no idea that fibre glass was a coating like marbelite (but maybe you don't mean it as a coating). I thought they had a fibre glass cast that fits into hole. As a part of my annual pastime, I recall in 2020, fibre glass quotes were way higher than marbelite.
No, you can do a fiberglass lining on top of the existing marbleite or cement structure.

Hi guys,

Any recommendations for a built-in Braai?

The house came with a "homemade" Braai but it doesn't work properly, smokes the whole entertainment area out so we never use it, so looking to have a proper Braai/flue kit/cowl installed. Ideally looking someone that can come out and and look at what's currently installed and quote on a replacement.

Can anyone recommend a good tiler in Fairland area?

It's for floors and although I know of a reliable tiler he isn't up to the planning you guys do with working from a point in the middle of the room etc. etc. Laying normal ceramic or porcelain tiles onto concrete.

If he does it wrong my OCD will drive me crazy.

Hi all

I'm considering doing the PVC interlocking dimple floor tiles for my second garage. I wont be driving a car onto it.

It seems like a budget friendly option.

I see quite a few people advertising on Facebook Marketplace at about R85/m2. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks.

Has anyone ever removed a fireplace? So many houses have a fireplace taking up valuable space that could be used for a TV.

I fitted these in my garage, black and grey with the sloping edges all round the side sections; cars park on them daily with no issues. Ran a bead of adhesive under the grey tiles where the wheels run, used for about 4 years now and still going strong.
Excuse the leaves/dirt...

Can't recall the cost back then... but it wasn't expensive, I recall a figure of around R1600 for everything.

If you do go this route, buy some extras from the same supplier, as all suppliers seem to have different interlocks and tile sizes differ somewhat

Let me know if you find one. Also looking in that neighbourhood.
Need to do a complete bathroom and only have a plumber that I trust.

Abel Couto, 0837824640. Meticulous, does amazing work (and he knows how to get the line and the level perfect).

Thanks so much Claymore, very difficult to find a true craftsman these days.

When we did renovations the builder brought a tiler who did the bathroom floor starting at the far corner and working his way towards the door, where he finished with a narrow strip.

Made them redo it.

What type of Primer should be used to paint Vibacrete Water or Solvent Based ? And should you first put on bonding liquid or rather sealer after top coat ?
