Nope -also checked the history, it seems our daily usage ranges between 40-60kw.

2.5KW base load is massive, I complain when I cant keep my house at around the 1KW mark.
I can see in the graph when the geyser runs and when you were cooking, the big spikes around 3 and 6.
Running any sort of heating equiptment uses power, youve mentioned the babyroom heater, do you know how much power it uses, I have a wall panel in the babyroom and it uses around 400W, but even that running at full tilt for 24hours would consume less than 10kwh a day.

Running a large server? Mining rig?

Try and see whats different between 6 and 9PM vs the rest of the day, there is a very clear reduction in load then.

But at 2.4KW average constant draw, that equates to 60KWH per day.

Edit, you can turn off appliances or trip the breakers in the DB 1 at a time to see what causes your load to drop, identify the circuit and device using all the power.
 
@xrapidx is your geysers overflow constantly dripping? could be a faulty thermostat leaving the element on permanently

Geyser is on a timer. It uses about 10kw a day.

All the big power users have power monitoring - the baby room heater is 2000w - but - its only on for a brief period before we go to bed.

I would double check this...

Do you physically switch it off and unplug it? Or using home assistant automations?

@xrapidx, I woud look into this, removing 2000W from what seems to be your base load puts you at 500W, which is quite average for a house, unless you run some highpower equiptment. My server draws around 300W on its own, so puts me in the 800 to 1Kw range depending if the entertainment stuff is on or not.

No, physically unplug it - its a freestanding heater, so we don't want it on in the baby's room at night. Its only a matter of time before he figures out how to scale the cot sides.

EDIT : One thing I'm going to try is somehow get my NAS to sleep - it has 8 hard drives and its always on because it hosts the various home-assistant databases.

Something is causing the surge of power in the evening until morning, it's clear from the graph. Your base drops in the morning to an acceptable level. You're going to kick yourself when you figure it out...

Yeh, its really weird - because the entire house shuts down when the sleep alarm comes on. Going to try and move my "monitoring" plugs around to plugs that don't have much connected (e.g. the coffee machine (which is off), and the robot vacuum)
 
One thing I picked up today after unplugging everything on two plugs - my AV amps use quite a bit of power when on standby, the Sony amp is 50w on standby, and the Onkyo 70w - that's already 86kw gone each month.

Right now, my wife and I are having arguments because I use HA to turn off the kitchens appliances plug point cos it uses 3.3w idle. She uses the Microwave to see time when she can use the oven (goes off only during loadshedding) or asking alexa. So the last few days , she sets the time on microwave - told her to give up and learn to use Alexa.

Think I need to check how much my lounge uses when idle. Maybe be good to turn it off when not being used.
 
Yeah AVRs use a crapload of power. Didn't know they use THAT much on idle? hectic.

The braai room media all things turn off most of the time using a sonoff. Only turn it on when we braai in the braai room.

The lounge...I also want to do this, except it messes with the CEC sync since I prefer using only the Shield's remote. So will have a look and decide whats better, comfort or power saving.
 
Exactly my issue - everything turns on via the Chromecast when in use. Might be another excuse to upgrade the amps , want to go 4k anyway. :)

I googled the Sony and it seems quite common for the standby to be that high - its an old amp, 10 years+ - and the Onkyo is also about 10 years.

The Onkyo is only used once every few weeks, so happy to leave that unplugged.

Alexa seems a lot more of a mission than just a quick glance at the microwave.

Eish - I have 4 older gen AVR's idling away - what's the general usage per AVR at idle?

Eh, I try to avoid situations my wife don't like with the automations. The automations should make our life easier, not work against our habits if you understand what I mean. When my wife complain about something I actively try to see if I can improve the automations. Just my philosophy around it. And trust me, there were complaints. I see it as requests to improve whatever I have done.
