Interesting, the Bosch cordless rotary is 2J
I guess this one the Bosch brand wins me over again
Bosch make excellent power tools. I have a corded green Bosch drill that I got on here as a PIF that needed a new chuck and that thing still goes for broke. And a blue Bosch jigsaw that has also given me years of good use.

On the cordless side, I started buying the Ingco P20s series of tools and they have been pretty flawless. The cordless Ingco hammer drill has percussion which is OK for cement and cinder blocks, but battles with any fired bricks. For heavy lifting, I have a hand-me-down Ryobi SDS that needed new brushes that I use most often. But, I can't justify buying a cordless SDS as I use it once in a blue moon.

If you go cordless, make sure you are getting at least a 4mah battery with it.. you will drain anything smaller before you are done with the job drilling into brick/concrete..

Sorry to be thick, where do I see the 4mah? Is 1.5Ah x ?? = 1500 fine :notworthy:

Been looking at that Bosch but sheesh, the price

Also saw this at Leroy Merlin

Honestly, I never had a proper drill for masonry before. This thing is a game changer. What I won't do with it, is when you need to do proper hole saw work into masonry. That day, I will rent a hilti to do the job.

But hanging stuff for the wife all over, fixing things into masonry ext, this rotary hammer is an absolute pleasure to use.

I bought 2x 6ah batteries, which I started using on my other cordless tools, somehow they give extra oomph over the 1.5ah batteries on the non drill tools.

The Bosch

Another benefit of the SDS drills is that you can have it in hammer-only (no rotation) mode, which is useful for chiseling away old tiles, grout, cement, etc with the appropriate chisel bit

Done!! Decision taken, thank you.

Truth to tell I'll be happy with the Bosch. It meets the criteria everyone's mentioned and I feel comfortable with the make, just double the price I expected to pay

Had no idea buying a drill was such a minefield and I really appreciate the info you guys provide.

EDIT: Aaaaaaaargh it's R3 600 at Builders, will have to order online.

R2885 at Top Dog. I've ordered from them before, really happy with their service.

BOSCH | Cordless 18V Rotary Hammer With SDS-Plus Tool Only | GBH 180-LI - Top Dog Tool Shop

EDIT: I see these all come sans the battery and charger. Just something to keep in mind. And Top Dog is outta stock - sorry, only noticed that now :(

One thing about having a good deck fitted, it also requires annual maintenance, (unless you like the silvered look), which I don't. The problem tho is the fact you need to re-sand it to get rid of the weathering etc, which is a MESSY, NOISY affair, it's a really kak job.

So this year, I took a chance and hired a high pressure spray gun. Wow, what usually took me almost a day of heavy graft and a sand-dune of dust and dirty pool, took 3 hours, and the results are just as good.

Happy with the result I must say. Still need to oil the bench as you can see, but overall, a nice finish.

I will be honest, buying this as your first cordless tool will be expensive. The drill is priced similar to the corded versions. But, the batteries and charger then throw it way out.

Batteries are pricey. At least if he goes this way he's buying into a solid ecosystem.

Holy macaroni I haven't seen this before.

5.8J but at R10k for the drill only...
If you're going big, you might as well do it properly

Interesting this 36v system. Maybe if it wasy job but for diy, I will only view the product.

One more thing to keep in mind is that SDS-drills come in two flavours, SDS-Plus and SDS-Max. Normally the drills are SDS-Plus which have a 10mm shank diameter. SDS-Max has an 18mm diameter, and is usually for heavier core drilling/demolition work.

@Speedster, with an empty weight of 8kg, you'd better hope that any holes you drill with that GBH 18V-45 C
are eye level and below:laugh:
