You can also try to put some course grinding paste on the screw head
and with some pressure unscrew it.

I once bought a tube of some stuff looking like some course grinding paste at a show which worked quite well. It can also be that the paste had some metal filings in it, but can't remember.

You can also solder a thin metal rod to the screw head and remove it with pliers or vice grip.

A third solution would be to take a Dremel tool and small cutting disk to grind a slot into the screw head and remove it with an ordinary screw driver.

You will hurt the lock plate with a dremel and disc, you could try a diamond tip and make slots for a screwdriver.

Rubber works well, removed a few with just a lappie.

You can try punch it out with a centre punch.

Thos eezi outs may not bite as they are designed to be used deeper into the screw.

Can try an impact screwdriver - I try first with that.

The lock is broken. That's why he wants to take it out. The new one is in the car's boot

I can't remember the exact steps, but I seem to recall
1. Clean
2. Permabond
3. Permabond mixed with paint
4. Paint

Just remember paint does expire. I've reused old paint without issue though.

Ok, lekker.

That sounds like a plan. Will be buying fresh paint. Had used fired earth roof paint on the front plastered wall and it looks good. will use that same brand paint on the precast too.

Hi all,

Anyone know of a repair company in CPT that does power tools? My uncle has a Kress MDH2002 that he would like someone to look at, not exactly sure what the problem is

Got a quote for the new windows for my renovation, 7 double glazed uPVC windows of various sizes ends up at around R83k. It's a lot but was expecting it (actually thought it would be slightly more).

Now I'm looking for a good exterior front door too but everything I see online looks kak and is not built to seal well or have any amount of insulating properties. Anyone know a good door place, ideally I would like a solid timber door but one that includes a good quality frame that actually seals properly when closed?

I had an aluminium door installed a little while back in the main house and it actually is well designed to seal properly but is just one massive thermal bridge and doesn't have any insulation.
 
Not sure if its the right place to post this but has anyone seen this in SA? Im looking for a product to replace a chimney that goes through thatch. The chimney is steel and is causing burning issues.

Feels cheap cos I think when I looked a few years ago - for 2-3 double doors it was around that price. Would have loved double glazed windows.

Out of interest, did you ask them if they supply thermal break aluminium windows..? These use a nylon connection around the entire frame, creating a thermal break between the inside and outside frames.. pretty much a aluminium sandwich with nylon as a filling..

I guess I could replace the entire thing myself , but where would I be able to buy one of these things. The handle is broken in pieces. This from a door installed just before COVID (when I wanted the double insulated doors but could not afford it), the company went under. Assume these are standard. Need to keep the lock cos of all the spare keys etc.

Double doors would be a lot of glass.

But I'm okay paying for it as my place currently is just an icebox in the winter and any heating just gets lost immediately through the aluminium and single pane glass.

Think these are called slim line door handles.. builders and Leroy Merlin should have you sorted..

Sharp. Thanks to the correct search term found it for R169 at my local builders. Thank you for your help . Also glad it's under R200 to fix - shew..

exactly the reason I wanted them since we have a lot of double glass doors. Our mistake was also making the front door full glass so the fireplace feels like it does nothing. We did also put the pink stuff in the roof (which did help - but this year feels like it must have all melted away or something).

Thanks to your post - I found this which I may consider for the two big glass doors - Cellular Shade blinds to create that 'insulation' layer.
