That looks like a massive area that needs to be heated.. add onto that losses through air gaps in windows and doors and if you don't have proper insulation in the roof space, it's no wonder you are having a bad time heating the space..

Yeah - open plan was all fun and games, until you try and control temperature or even sound.

Have spent some time getting air gaps and doors sealed tightly.

Is it normal for white tiles to show wetness from the tile cement, after just being tiled?

I wet one to see if it was that:

Hi Sir It is absolutely normal. That is one of Ceramic industries tiles. Local factory, Think the code should be OSH10A7LA.
The water absorption is between 10 and 20% of tile weight. Its normal and would go away in a couple of days.

1. You should use a good quality ceramic adhesive as the tile will suck all the water out of a cheap adhesive and cause tiles falling of the wall
2. Use clean water in your adhesive. Dirty water can leave residue under the glace.
3. wait at least 24 hours before you start grouting as that will help the water marks to disappear. if you grout to soon it can take longer.


For the price they good tiles. Supplied 1000s of sqm of that range

So you have single phase, from a cursory look, you can see single phase voltages are on the far left. Judging by the diagram you would bridge L1,2,3 for single phase but INAE.

Ours looked similar, but it had the bridge already fitted across L1/L2/L3 per the left-most diagram, so I just connected the L wire to L1.

Edit: make and model stove?

If you have single phase you should follow the diagram on the left. I see the neutral is already bridged but not the L1/L2/L3, maybe find out where that piece is else you need to use wire L3->L2, L2->L1. Wire also needs to be 4mm minimum.

Friend of mine is looking at changing his floor tiles along this staircase. Tiler has recommended that he should install a new staircase since this was will get damaged in the process (he got a quote for R90k for a new wooden staircase).

My knee - jerk is the tiler is likely too lazy to make the cuts required.

Sounds like the tiler is too lazy to cut the tiles around the posts. That railing still looks perfect I would keep it in place.

Also tell him to put some non slips tiles on the stairway, current tiles look like an accident waiting to happen.

That's a kak job for a tiler I can tell you.. it's not going to look all that neat, not bad by any means but it is what it is.. his tiling quote will and should be a lot higher than normal for the amount of time and cuts to make.

If it is possible to remove the whole railing and then tile, then reinstall that would be first price and the neatest.

Between you and the tiler please figure out what is the staircase and what is the railing and which of these need the "so called replacing"..

This would be for normal single phase. You can either use two nice thick pieces of copper wire or buy a copper bus bar (the distances might not be correct though)

Please turn off the "mains" at the DB board and not just the "stove" breaker etc" in fact turn every breaker off to be 100% safe.

Also, why white tiles exist I don't know. The only place they look good is in a showroom which get detailed often. In a normal house white tiles come from hell itself.

Totally disagree.

I've had smooth glazed white tiles in my house since 1995.

One wipe with a damp cloth and they're brand new again.

Unlike my neighbour who's had to chisel out all the previous owners old textured tiles cause it's kark difficult to keep clean with all the shite that gets tramped into the fine texture.
