You are not wrong on the leak, I saw some water coming out of the intake where it connects to the ball's arm. BUT as far as I could see that just filled the tank more which pushes the ball up. Once the arm went up both the intake and the leak stopped, so I don't think that was the problem.

The plastic extender which pushes against the tank edge is quite thin and a bit broken, so I think it slipped a notch or two and that gave the ball more height.

Either way, you'd think that in 2024 we'd have a better way doing this than we did in the 70's :)
 
I'm bashing through a wall to take some space from an adjoining room to make a built-in cupboard in the bedroom. Where in Randburg can I get normal white melamine sheets (as well as cut to size and edged) so I can use them as doors? I'll do hinges/handles/fitting/insides myself. Tx

EDIT: Or is there a place that sells std sized cupboard doors to go?

typically builders or chamberlains will do this cut the sheet to your size and edge it etc

I have had great service from TimBuild Randburg in the past.
 
Minor update.. as I said, functional kitchen in two weeks, though still a bit of chaos and a ways to go before we are done..

Templating for the stone tops happening on Wednesday..

Also tested one of the under shelf lights for the pantry, just need a way to switch them on and off as you open and close the doors..

I have a wood deck on the first floor that is at the end of it's life. I have looked at replacing with composite decking but at over R1000 a square it is quite expensive for around 50 square meters. Any ideas on a ballpark amount if I rather replace it with a cement slab? There are existing walls on 2,5 sides of the deck, so would need to build another column or 2 to support the slab.

I would just put in another deck. R15000 for the slab minimum.

Careful that this change to your house plans doesnt need approval and sign off by an engineer.

Took me 6 months to get plans approved being held up by a pool removed without an engineer sign off years ago.
 
Thoughts on enclosing this patio in aluminium and double pane glass with a glass roof over the top?

I would avoid the glass roof and go poly carbonate with an awning style roof instead... Will be cheaper.

Over-filling shouldn't cause it to leak. There should be an overflow that runs down into the bowl. These are usually height adjustable, maybe check if yours is set too high.

I would definitely get plans updated and an engineer to sign off if I go this route. Just trying to figure out what the best option is long term.
 
So a small repair job in a bathroom ended up in damaging the toilet by the builders. I need to buy a new toilet asap. Are toilets just toilets and you buy the one you like the aesthetics of it (and cost) or is there something further to consider. Current now broken toilet flushed water all around the bowl which I liked so that is definitely something I would look at.

Checking out builders for now as that would be the quick solution. Is the lusso brand good? Like the price since this is a now unexpected expense.

Make sure to get a standard seat size, for example not square, as getting replacement seats later is near impossible and stupidly expensive.

The irony was that I had to spend 800 rands on a square seat for the toilet that broke 2 months ago which was soft closed and all that good stuff. Anyway I'm taking it out as a backup for the other two toilets I have which are identical


I did not think at the time when I bought the toilet seat at 800 rands was stupidly expensive but today when seeing what price you can get a full toilet for yeah very expenses thanks for the tip
