The Hyundai i20 Thread

Wow it looks lovely, i have a 2011 1.6 and i love it, now on 75000km.

I dont understand why hyundai have dropped the 1600 motor, because i have driven the new i20 1.4 and its so sluggish and slow.

The 1.4 diesel, also too small, top speed 145km/h wtf!!!

In and around JHB you cant go smaller than 1.6 and if you do its suicide...you need to have the power to overtake and keep up with the traffic without killing the motor. I would rather get some other 1600 should i be in the market one day.

Because they want you to buy the more expensive Accent Hatch if you want a hatchback with a 1.6. Seriously, that is why.

EDIT: That looks extremely VW like.

Also interesting to note that the new car is bigger than the old one (increased wheel span, increased legroom and larger boot) and yet the engines are the same. No turbo petrols either.

Looks more like a Peugeot to me. Roux will be along shortly to tell us it looks like some car from 1967...
Gross colour to pick to try promote it though.

For some reason(s) the Koreans (along with Toyota) are still not into turbo petrol motors as yet.

Now that Lexus as one should not be that long more turbo petrol motors to come. When they eventually reach RSA is another story altogether ie VW f/lift Polo TSI engines.

oooh is that daytime led lights that i see?

Looks really nice and they better bring bank that 90kw+ 1.6 motor with the model!

Looks nice. A new motor is needed though. Nothing wrong with the old ones but its time to move to FI.

The sides and the back pillars remind me of the older Kia Rios.

Kia and Hyundai have plenty of turbo petrol models available but the problem is that most of them don't make it to South Africa for some reason.
- Hyundai Veloster 1.6T
- Hyundai Sonata 2.0T
- Kia Optima 2.0T
- Kia Forte5 (Cerato) 1.6T
- Kia Sorento 2.0T
Plenty more I'm not going to list.

Only the Kia Koup 1.6 GDI (Turbo) has made it to South Africa.

I drive a Kia and my next car will be turbo charged so if Kia, Hyundai and Toyota don't have that option when I'm looking, they won't be on the short list.

While it looks great, don't hold your breath that it will look that way when it gets to SA. Going by the new i10, this i20 will come with boring rims, no door garnish, stupid headlights and a fraction of the features of its overseas counterparts. And for good measure they will raise the price. After all that, it will still be competitive with the rest of the cars in its segment.

I think the bud is referring to the Grand i10; whereas in Euro markets this model is the "new" i10. We have the "old" i10 & the India-built; not-Euro-built; "new" i10 that's fill the gap in our market above the "old" i10.

The diff is the Indian-source makes do with a slightly longer wheel base & less fancy trim than it's Euro-made counterparts.
