The I LOVE Humus thread

That'll do the trick. And it has a blender attachment too...

And is worth getting cause it does a million other things too.
Grate cheese
chop onions
make crumbs
beat eggs / cream
slice potatoes........

I had a pizza years back that had hummus on it.
A health nut friend arrived with a mighty suspect looking pizza - to start off, it had a wholewheat base which made me a little anxious.
There was hummus and an array of other "exotic" toppings - turned out to be one of the finest pizzas I have ever tasted !

Sometimes healthy food can very tasty I have to admit. Me and my sis went to this spa outside of Joburg and they have a a deck where you can sit and relax and have something to eat between treatments and I ordered a country burger. Patty was made from chick peas and OMG!!!!!! It was delicious!!! So much so that I tried to make it myself at hom ... but I cant get the texture or the taste the same. If I was not so full afterwards I would have ordered another one.

I must look out for that then. I dont go into Woolies food all that often. I am affraid the rich people attack or chase me out! :p

Here's my take... I have a Pick 'n Pay 800 meters from my home, they don't stock Hummus. There's a Spar a couple of kilometres away and they do. Haven't stepped foot in the P'nP for nearly a year now for that reason and that reason alone.

They dont sell Hummus? How is that possible? The one PnP I go to @ Morning Glen have got a new brand of Hummus .... Salad Farm. Very very nice.....but the PnP on South Road does not stock this brand. I find it strange how some branches sells something others dont.

Falafel (/fəˈlɑːfəl/; Arabic: ﻞﻓﻼﻓ , [fæˈlæːfɪl] ( listen)) is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.

Anat. Do it.

Worse still... I asked them a couple if times to get it but nothing, nada, zip. The Spar is pretty good but I've noticed they sell out regularly so I've become an unofficial Hummus stock alarm there. :D

Their stuff lasts longer so there is less wastage. I don't mind paying a bit more for that.

And certain items are sometimes cheaper than the regular stores.

I love humus too. With Salticrax. The only nice humus I've found in PE is at Woolworths.

For the best hummus in Jo'burg...you need to go to the schwarma company in Norwood. No homemade or supermarket humus can even get close to their stuff. Its pricey though

Is this the one in Grant Avenue? Their Schwarma's truely are delicious. I got these for a friend when he came over for "movie night" .... the next time I invited him over he said ok ... but only if I go get more of those Schwarmas for him.

I swear ... I am not making this stuff up! :p

So just your charms alone were not good enough?

And here I was thinking I was the only person who has a drip of the stuff.

Salad farm is actually one of the oldest brands and probably the best commercial one we have - just their distribution stinks, though recently they have been popping up all over.

Mediterranean brand and woolies I find to be just bleh.

The best hummus anywhere is made by Israeli Arabs, a lot of my current weight could probably be attributed to my last visit to Israel where I had hummus as least once a day and their portion sizes are just huge bowls of the stuff.

I try and make my own, even imported raw tahini from Israel to try and get the perfect blend, but I just can't get the Arab Israeli texture and flavour. I haven't given up. I have family going over to Israel in December and will try and get some palestinian tahini from Nablus, supposedly the best there is. Turns out most of the Israeli brands use Ethiopian tahini and I want the Nablus product which I assume the Arab Israelis would be using.

I either cook mine raw from scratch, boiling and softening chickpeas for hours, or if I am lazy will use tinned. Fruit and Veg have both and their tinned are very cheap, R6.99 a tin.

A slow cooker is awesome for chickpeas :)
