So It's been around 6-7 months since my install took place through Openserve and my ISP holds the line as well as my internet connection so it's one big fat bill. I will say this to everyone still waiting for coverage to hit them or waiting for the team to install their fibre connection. It is worth the wait and bitching to get it done, of the 6 years I've only seen 3 major down times of 20min through my 20MB fibre connection from Iconnect over the span of 2 month's or so and the outages would hit at the most quietest time on the net and would not last longer than 20 or so minutes.
Even if there's a Seacom outage you wouldn't feel the difference in speed as you would with normal ADSL. So I got myself the following and paid for the following 6 odd months ago.
Line; 20MB/10MB fibre connection (Iconnect) R1110 per month excluding voice.
Installation; I chose to pay for my fibre line so that I don't get locked into the 6 months small print thing, cost me R1750 once off. You can still choose to waiver the cost you just need to stay with the ISP for around 6 months while they recoup the cost of that install.
Router; I had some issues with my initial install and Iconnect graciously provided me with a small mikrotik router since I have other routers in the house handling the wireless connection. So luckily didn't pay a cent.
I chose to port my home number, What a blady mission, Telkom decided to still bill me for 4 months and take my hard earned cash now it's a mission to get that money back even though they've now credited it to me. I got myself a wireless home phone the whole phone and install was around R3000.00 so I paid it off over 3-4 months with no hassles. Works like a charm still.
Voice; Since I ported I used to pay R500 every month for my home phone now I pay R50-R100 for phone calls and we use the phone quite regularly. Quality is god-like.
Normal Home support through Iconnect is still mind numbing so if you do get a connection through them just ask for the Business support, which btw is AWESOME, I call through to business support and the normal Q&A doesn't get sent through to you which for a tech savvy person like myself is awesome, just want to get to the part of fixing not go through the long Q&A list.
So home support works for not so tech savvy people and on and off you'll get the poor guy/girl that doesn't know themselves and asks their friend next door to their PC in the home support section. But needless to say, everyone is super friendly and always ready to help.
So at the end of the day, I pay R1200.00 per month for a 20MB/10MB fibre connection over Openserve. I use well over 650Gigs per month which in my books is huge amount of data, no throttling and no shapping at all. Not had anything of the sort, in fact, I hope one day the price for the 20 goes down a small bit so that for the same amount I could get maybe a 40MB or 50MB connection. Star Citizen 26 Gigs took me a good 5 hours to download.
7 months now and well love my connection through Iconnect, Don't see the point in moving unless if there's a massive price drop or something.
Their site sucks still... so give them a call and let Nicola or Lunga help you. Ask by name, awesome ladies.
Iconnect in my books is a good 9/10 try them out.
