The iOS 10 Thread/Discussion

iOS 10 adoption rate slowly climbs to 63%

According to Apple’s own measurements, iOS 10 adoption rate has climbed to 63% of active devices, as measured by the App Store on November 27, 2016, up from 60% of devices as reported by Tim Cook on stage at the “Hello Again” Mac event on October 27.

iOS 9 went from powering 32% of devices last month to just about 29% this month. Earlier operating system versions install base has been steadily the same at about 8%.

If this adoption rate seems impressive, especially compared to Android’s adoption rate of about 1%, it is still significantly less than iOS 9’s adoption at the same time last year, which was pegged at 70%.

Interestingly enough, Apple used to update these numbers every other week but it seems to have changed this schedule to only once a month.

All I want for Christmas is the ability to set the default player for Music when it connects to my car's bluetooth.

Even though I can get Apple Music at the $4.99 student price on my US subscription, Google Play gives me a web player on any machine (without iTunes) plus I get to see YouTube without ads. For the 2 dollars or so a month I pay more for it, I cannot justify changing to Apple Music.

Yup...

iOS 10.2 now available with many new iPhone and iPad features

Nearly two months since it began testing iOS 10.2 with its registered developers, Apple today released the software update for public consumption. To update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 10.2, go to Settings → General → Software Update. iOS 10.2 has a build number 14C92 and is recommended for all users.

iOS 10.2 brings out more than two-dozen new features, including new wallpapers, widgets and emoji, Apple’s dedicated channel guide app, the Emergency SOS feature from the Apple Watch, the option to preserve camera settings, a pair of brand new screen effects for Messages and much more.

Needless to say, folks who are jailbroken are wholeheartedly recommended to hold off upgrading to iOS 10.2 until we have more information on the update.

Does this update fix the frozen camera app when first opened

When you open camera it freezes and doesn't allow you to take a pic straight away.

Never saw that happen on 5 devices I have.

It does seem to have sorted the phone app freezing when opened on the iPhone 6 though.

New TV app looks pretty cool - might actually be worth getting an apple tv now. Anyone know which models the app is available on?

FWIW the new TV app just replaces/renames the Videos app. You just need to sign into the US app store to see it.
