The iOS 11 Thread/Discussion

Example, Whatsapp, you wouldn’t get messages/voice calls if you didn’t allow background refresh.

Goes for any messaging or email app.

I have never had background refresh on but I still receive all my messages.

That’s interesting, this article seems to say without background refresh VOIP calls won't notify. Perhaps messages still work via notifications (which does seem more likely).

To get a better understanding of what Background App Refresh adds to the iOS experience, here is Apple’s own definition of Background App Refresh.

After you switch to a different app, some apps run for a short period of time before they're set to a suspended state. Apps that are in a suspended state aren’t actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. With Background App Refresh, suspended apps can check for updates and new content.
If you want suspended apps to check for new content, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn on Background App Refresh. If you quit an app from the app switcher, it might not be able to run or check for new content before you open it again.

For example, an app can check if new content is available and download the updates, or retrieve the updated content in the background when it receives a push notification, so the new content is ready for viewing when you launch the app. Apps can also schedule background refreshing based on your location. If you force an app to quit by dragging it up from the multitasking display, it won’t be able to do its background activities, such as tracking location or responding to VoIP calls, until you relaunch the app.

I've noticed that with iOS11 the phone switches off the display and locks if you're playing music/podcasts while charging. This was a pretty cool thing i enjoyed where you just had to tap your screen and the display would light up and you could carry on using the phone. Now it completely shuts off the display and locks the phone(auto lock enabled here obviously)

Also, the standard fish live wallpapers have been removed.

Background app refresh has always been off on my side. Whatsapp and FaceTime calls have come through. Haven’t yet tested it with iOS 11, but with 10 they came through.

I had to delete the beta profile in order to get my hands on the 11.0.1 update. Installing now.

So Apple Doctor installed the new battery?

A battery is a part. A hard one to judge with foresight at that.

WeFix however would break something else while replacing the battery as I’ve seen countless times.

And would have given a one month warranty at the while putting up a huge fight.

Never experienced that myself. Most recently they managed to resurrect a iPhone 6 that had been submerged, lets pretend it was in a bath... I only started using them after AD fubared an iPad, so my opinions are probably as unbiased as yours :)

Crap, just took my wife’s 6s to Wefix... don’t think they know what they doing. Hope they don’t break something. Will have to take it to Apple Doctor then.

Wefix worked just fine for me, haven't had issues with them so far.

Well then I hope they fix my wife’s phone.

They've replaced so many iPhone batteries they could probably do it in their sleep and you don't think they know what they're doing?

Yes, they misaligned my camera. Mistakes happen. I took it back within 5 minutes and they fixed it

Nope, I’m skeptic. I had that 6s “fixed” before from them. They changed the battery once and replaced the screen that I accidentally cracked. Now it suffers from extreme slow down, freezing, crashing, boot loops etc. I’v tried reinstalling iOS. DFU restore, everything I can possibly think of. It must be a hardware error and perhaps they didn’t do such a good job at fixing it last time that they messed it up more. The latest feedback I got from them today was that they cannot reproduce the error and therefore it’s fine according to them.

In any case I will be getting the iPhone X for myself and my wife. Just need to get that fixed in the meantime my

I have had two screen replacements for my wife, which I guess isn't that difficult. But the last time I took it to them, I was still shopping in Game when they called me to say I can come collect. That screen is broken again though, I don't know why she doesn't just leave the phone in the case, waiting for another onedayonly special.

To be fair I haven't used Apple Doctor personally but have sent a few people there after numerous issues with WeFix by myself (these days do it all myself) and having sent others there.

The quality of WeFix screens is also definitely not Apple-level and quite inferior. Quite possibly why they've been pushed to get rid of the iFix name and not pretend to be official.

All depends what the original issue was really.

Submerged has often been easier to fix in my experience depending how bad it was.
