The iOS 15 Thread/Discussion

iOS 15 brings back the popular dial picker from iOS 13 and earlier with a twist

Across the system, iOS 14 brought a new dial picker that was quite the departure from the tried and true version we had in the years before. As we first reported in June, with iOS 15, Apple has brought back its popular wheel dial picker but with a small twist for those who prefer numpad entry.

iOS 14 made a big shift with its dial picker. Instead of the large, wheel-style dial picker, it adopted a small hybrid approach that included both a numpad input and a somewhat hidden dial picker.

Many users have found the iOS 14 picker less convenient and intuitive to use with the ability to select the hours or minutes or both for editing with the numpad. And with the iOS 14 dial picker being so small, it’s not as fast and seamless to quickly swipe your numbers in.

New iOS 15 dial picker with a twist

Apple has decided to bring back the time-tested large dial picker from iOS 13 and earlier. You’ll find it across the system in iOS 15 on iPhone and iPad and it’s got an even cleaner design than ever.

But along with the return of the large dial, there’s something new – you can also tap it to pull up the numpad (thanks for spotting codemonkey85!).

So the new picker is a hybrid approach with the old favorite being the default/first accessible with but the numpad just a tap away:

Users are taking longer to update to iOS 15 than they did with iOS 14

Two days after releasing iOS 15 to the public, a report suggests that initial adoption is lower than iOS 14 at launch. According to analytics company Mixpanel, in over 48 hours, 8.59% of users updated to iOS 15 while during the same period with iOS 14, adoption was already over 14.68%.

It’s important to note that Mixpanel measures iOS adoption based on visits to the sites and apps that use its mobile analytics SDKs. Apple, of course, hasn’t publicly revealed how many people updated their devices yet.

In June, Apple announced over 85% of users were using iOS 14, 5% less than what Mixpanel reported in April when it said that over 90.45% of iOS users had installed the latest version of the operating system.

One of the things that could explain this lower adoption is that users can keep on iOS 14, with version 14.8, and continue receiving important security patches. Not only that, if users haven’t updated to iOS 14.8 yet, it will appear more prominent than the iOS 15 update on the “Settings” tab.

iOS 15.1 Public Beta is now out… I forgot to delete the friggin Beta Profile lol, may as well enjoy 15.1 then.

iOS 15 has completely screwed up my storage... Got in touch with Apple support and they are aware of the issue but do not have an understanding of what is causing it. As such they're unable to provide a timeline on a solution.

That's odd. Mine is working fine.

Yep seems to be a wide spread issue…

Always interesting to see what Apple breaks in new updates, lol, this seems very annoying, I never had it on iOS 15 and not seeing in iOS 15.1 either, seems the Betas are better than the final releases lol!

Have this problem on my iPad, on which I installed the public beta on the 15th. No issues on my iPhone though.

Feature I was looking forward to the most. . . And its not available in South Africa :(
Does anyone know why Private Relay is not available in SA?

Apple says in iOS 15: "Private Relay is not available in South Africa due to local laws and regulations." What local laws? Please, can someone explain? Thanks

Unless you really want the proxy aspect, just use the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 app, my IP shows up in Speedtest as Private Relay.

Apple releases iOS 15.0.1 with ‘Apple Watch Unlock’ fix on iPhone 13 and more

One week after the release of the iPhone 13 and iOS 15, Apple is rolling out a bug fix update with some notable improvements. iOS 15.0.1 and iPadOS 15.0.1 are rolling out now with a fix for ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ and more. Head below for the full release notes.

Here’s what Apple says is fixed in today’s release of iOS 15.0.1:
  • Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch may not work on iPhone 13 models
  • Settings app may incorrectly display an alert that storage is full
  • Audio meditations could unexpectedly start a workout on Apple Watch for some Fitness+ subscribers
The most notable fix here is for the Unlock with Apple Watch bug. As we reported last week, Apple acknowledged this issue in a support document and promised that a fix would come soon. Apple said at the time:

Apple has identified an issue where Unlock with Apple Watch may not work with iPhone 13 devices. You might see “Unable to Communicate with Apple Watch” if you try to unlock your iPhone while wearing a face mask, or you might not be able to set up Unlock with Apple Watch.

Been using this Free App for Safari Dark Mode. Works pretty well. Just yesterday they added a whitelisting option to exclude certain sites.
