Since the reveal of the XK 120 in 1948, sports cars have been integral to Jaguar's heritage, the culmination of this rich lineage being the F-Type - winner of more than 170 global awards. Now, in celebration of 70 years of Jaguar sports cars, the F-Type range has been enhanced by the addition of the Chequered Flag Special Edition.
Based on the Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Coupé and Convertible, and available with powerful four- and six-cylinder engines, the Chequered Flag features a range of subtle visual enhancements to the exterior and to the driver-focussed "1+1" cabin.
Highlights include a Black Contrast roof on the Coupé and a luxurious Windsor Leather interior featuring Performance seats with embossed headrests, a Dark Brushed Aluminium centre console trim finisher and - in recognition of Jaguar's motorsport successes - a steering wheel with discrete Chequered Flag logo and red leather band to mark the 12 o'clock position.

The Jaguar F-Type's exquisite, perfectly-proportioned exterior is enhanced by the Exterior Black Design Pack, which benefits from SVO extended side sills to subtly increase visual width and give the car even greater presence and poise. The 20-inch Gloss Black wheels with Diamond Turned finish are exclusive to the Chequered Flag and perfectly complement the red finish of the brake calipers. The Chequered Flag's superbly-crafted Ebony Windsor Leather interior is offered with contrast stitching in a choice of Red or Cirrus. The slimline Performance seats, with optional heated and cooling functionality, feature headrests embossed with Chequered Flag branding.
In place of the Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic's Delta aluminium centre console trim, the Chequered Flag features a Dark Brushed Aluminium finisher. The texture and finish of this material perfectly complements the Ebony Windsor Leather.
The Touch Pro infotainment system features Meridian audio, a suite of connected services and, for the first time in F-Type, Apple CarPlay and Android auto to make it easier than ever to access tailored smartphone apps using the 10-inch touchscreen.
Power comes from the 300PS/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine or the 340PS/450Nm and 380PS/460Nm supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engines. All offer an outstanding balance of responsiveness, power and efficiency - and all with a visceral soundtrack which reflects the F-Type's truly driver-focused character.
All engines are matched to eight-speed Quickshift transmissions and send drive to the rear wheels, or - in the 380PS models - the choice of Jaguar's all-wheel drive system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics.

New Jaguar F-Type ‘Chequered Flag’ model headed to SA!
Jaguar has revealed a new special-edition Chequered Flag model – scheduled to arrive in South Africa in April 2019 – conceived to celebrate 70 years of sportscars from the British brand.
Based on the R-Dynamic coupé and convertible, the Chequered Flag trim brings various mode-specific styling tweaks, both inside and out.
The coupé, for instance, gains a black contrasting roof, while both body styles boast SVO-style side-sills, 20-inch gloss-black wheels and red brake callipers.
Inside, you’ll find Ebony Windsor Leather trim (with contrast stitching in either Red or Cirrus), performance seats (with embossed headrests), dark brushed-aluminium centre console trim and a steering wheel bearing the “Chequered Flag” logo. Apple CarPlay has also been added.

Should I buy one?
Honestly? These new F-Types are an awful lot of money for cars that are only very slightly changed from before.
Of course, if you must have a jazzy new colour or the very latest infotainment technology, then the 2019 model year car is the one to go for. Moreover, as long as you’re not expecting the very sharpest, most immersive sports car experience out there, the F-Type remains immensely likeable. But only as likeable as it ever has, truth be told.
Trouble is, there are alternatives out there that can show the Jaguar up a tad. While only a coupe for now, the smaller, nimbler Alpine A110 really is a revelation for the market. Those wishing to play the six-cylinder hooligan will be well served by the BMW M2 Competition, and the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman – especially as GTS models – should never be discounted.
For now, though, nothing else quite delivers the same combination of V6 brawn, show-stopping good looks and engaging dynamics. Accept its limitations and this F-Type update keeps it an appealing, if expensive, option.

The one-off F-Type rally cars also pay homage to the legendary Jaguar XK 120 registered 'NUB 120' which, in the early 1950s in the hands of Ian Appleyard, completed three consecutive Alpine Rallies without incurring a single penalty point, and won the RAC and Tulip.
Both rally-specification F-Type Convertibles are powered by Jaguar's 300PS 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder petrol engine. With modifications overseen by Jaguar Design and Engineering, both cars were built to FIA specification, with comprehensively uprated brakes and suspension fitted alongside a protective rollcage, race-seats with six-point harness, bonnet-mounted light pod and fire extinguisher.
The celebratory models were put through their paces at Walters Arena rally stage, South Wales, to demonstrate their performance credentials and will attend a series of Jaguar events.

We knew it was going to happen but it still doesn’t make it any easier to accept: Jaguar has discontinued the three-pedal option on the 2020 F-Type. It’s a low volume-selling car with an unpopular option. No surprises there.
When the F-Type debuted, it came exclusively with the eight-speed automatic transmission. But then Jag went ahead and introduced a manual option for the rear-wheel drive V6 F-Type S a couple of years later, which was widely praised as the superior version anyway.
The take rate on these manual F-Types, however, was apparently so low that Jaguar won’t continue them for the 2020 model year, a spokesperson confirmed to us. Only about four percent of F-Types were bought with three pedals, Car and Driver estimates. Indeed, if you go onto Jag’s website and try to spec out a 2020 F-Type right now, there is no more manual option available.
While there are still a bunch of other fun sports cars you can get with a manual today, it still kind of sucks when one of them gets taken away from us. Especially a very pretty one like the F-Type. The option lives on in the UK, though.

In 2013 when the F-Type convertible launched, you needed from £60,000 or so to get one. Today, a six-year-old entry-level 3.0 with 35,000 miles is a shade under £25,000.
That’s more like it. As a new car, the F-Type has always looked expensive next to the competition, but used ones make a lot more sense.
There are hundreds to choose from at prices ranging from the aforementioned £25,000 all the way to £140,000 for a 2016-reg limited-run Project 7 convertible. In between are clusters of achingly desirable examples at multiple price points.
Jaguar approved used cars start at around £30,000 for a 2014/64-reg 3.0 coupé with 45,000 miles, backed by an impressive two-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
Meanwhile, legions of specialists are selling F-Types, albeit with less comprehensive warranties, as well as private sellers whose prices can be optimistic. A hard economics lesson and threats to look elsewhere usually softens their resolve.

Remember the LFT-666, the Jaguar F-Type Coupé-based sportscar Lister Motor Company unveiled in 2018? Now the British firm has revealed its "most powerful open-top supercar ever”, handing the F-Type R AWD Convertible a louder exhaust note, carbon-fibre kit and (of course) extra power.
Dubbed the LFT-C, the car (seen here sporting the Cambridge-based tuner’s bespoke livery) has received engine modifications such as uprated supercharger pulleys, custom intercoolers, performance air filters and Lister’s engine management unit.
The standard 5,0-litre supercharged V8, which is good for 405 kW and 680 N.m in stock form, now produces a whopping 497 kW and 976 N.m of torque. Lister claims the LFT-C will reach 100 km/h from standstill in “just over” 3,0 seconds, before topping out at 335 km/h.
Other mechanical upgrades include a revised suspension set-up and brakes plus, for added drama, a louder exhaust system.
Like its LFT-666 stablemate, of which 99 units were produced, the convertible will be available in limited numbers. Only 10 examples of the LFT-C, each costing £139 000 (that's nearly R2,5-million), will be built, making it even more exclusive than the coupé...

A fresh report out of Europe suggests the next-generation Jaguar F-Type will employ a BMW-sourced V8 powerplant.
According to Auto Express, it is “strongly rumoured” that Jaguar will ditch the supercharged 5,0-litre V8 petrol mill in favour of the Bavarian firm’s 4,4-litre twin-turbo unit, the same 441 kW/750 N.m engine currently featured in many of BMW’s M models.

New Jaguar F-Type: 2020 restyling shown with less disguise
Jaguar's sports car gets a styling and technology overhaul to bring it up to date, and new shots give us the best look yet
Jaguar is in the process of testing an updated F-Type due for reveal next year, and new shots give us the closest look yet at the external and internal changes for the new model.
The photographs, taken near Jaguar Land Rover's Gaydon technical HQ, show two prototypes are shedding camouflage as testing ramps up. We can now see the restyled front end more clearly, with a new clamshell bonnet, slim, angular LED headlights mounted lower down the nose and a more prominent grille.
A look at the rear shows it retains the same vertical bootlid, but with new wraparound tail-lights and a reshaped bumper. A quick glimpse at the cabin doesn't reveal much, but it looks like the infotainment has moved on a generation, while the rotary dial climate display remains.

Jaguar F-Type Recalled In Australia For Being Too Loud
If you have had the chance to drive a Jaguar F-Type or see (and hear) one in person, then you will know they are not silent vehicles but surely they are not too loud?
The F-Type SVR is a very loud and angry Brit but Australian authorities did not find that model guilty in this case. 28 units of the supercharged V6 F-Type were recalled to make them less noisy.
The recall documentation issued by Product Safety Australia has listed 28 F-Type cars spread across 2019 and 2020 model years to be recalled as they have been reported to be exceeding the regulated maximum drive-by test limit of 74 decibels.

The recall documentation issued by Product Safety Australia has listed 28 F-Type cars spread across 2019 and 2020 model years to be recalled as they have been reported to be exceeding the regulated maximum drive-by test limit of 74 decibels.

Jaguar has released a teaser of its updated F-Type sportscar which is due for a reveal in early December 2019.
The unveiling will take place on the 2nd December 2019 and from what we can see, the changes will be extensive. The vehicle gains a bit of a redesign, with tweaks to the headlights, bonnet, and body work. There are also updates to the vehicle's cabin, with the latest infotainment system making its way into Jaguar's sportscar.
