Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara recalled over faulty fuel gauge - Team-BHP​

Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall for the Grand Vitara over a faulty fuel gauge. A total of 39,506 units manufactured between December 2024 and April 2025 are said to be affected.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the faulty fuel level indicator may display incorrect fuel status. While it isn’t a major safety concern, the instrument cluster will have to be inspected before rectifying the fault.

Authorized dealers have been instructed to reach out to the owners of the SUVs affected by the recall. The inspection and replacement of the faulty part will be done free of cost.

Grand Vitara owners can check if their vehicle is among those recalled by entering the chassis number on Maruti’s official website.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder recalled over faulty fuel gauge - Team-BHP​

Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki issued a recall for the Grand Vitara over a faulty fuel gauge. Now its twin, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, has also been recalled for the same issue.

Vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025, have been affected. The recall affects 11,529 units of the Urban Cruiser equipped with the analogue instrument cluster.

According to Toyota, the fuel gauge may not display the correct fuel level, leading to cases where the low fuel indicator warning may fail to illuminate.

Toyota will be reaching out to owners of the affected vehicles to notify them about the recall and get their vehicles inspected at their nearest authorised dealership. Part replacements will be carried out free of cost.

This is not a new recall. The Takata airbag issue has been active since 2015 and remains the largest automotive safety recall in history, impacting millions of vehicles across multiple global brands. What’s new is Toyota’s intensified effort to reach the remaining owners who have not yet brought their vehicles in for the free safety repair.

A serious risk that hasn’t gone away
Despite years of communication, 39% of affected vehicles in South Africa remain unrepaired. That means thousands of drivers, passengers and families are still at risk of injury or death should a defective airbag deploy with excessive force.

Urgent ‘stop driving’ recall announced for numerous Opel, Citroen, Chrysler and Jeep products in SA

The long-standing Takata airbag saga has taken another twist, with auto giant Stellantis having ordered an “urgent” recall on numerous Opel, Citroen, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles built between 2008 and 2018.

“Stellantis South Africa is issuing an urgent Stop-Drive safety warning for selected Stellantis-owned brands,” the company announced on Thursday. “This directive forms part of the global Takata airbag recall, which continues to affect multiple manufacturers worldwide.”

Airbag inflators produced by Takata have been shown to deteriorate over time, especially when exposed to hot and humid climates. Under such conditions, the inflators may explode when the airbags deploy, projecting metal fragments that can cause serious injury or even death.

Worldwide, Takata airbags have reportedly been linked to over 30 deaths and hundreds of injuries, mainly affecting Honda vehicles, although other brands such as Toyota, GM and Stellantis have also recalled cars fitted with these airbags. The first recalls were announced in 2013.

Stellantis SA continues Takata airbag safety recall

The critical Stop-Drive safety warning is ongoing for Opel, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Jeep, Citroën, DS and Chrysler models with Takata airbags in South Africa. By: Julian Rael Gordon.

As of 5 January 2026, Stellantis South Africa is continuing its Takata airbag recall campaign. The automaker is strongly encouraging owners of Opel, legacy Chevrolet, Peugeot, Jeep, Citroën, DS and Chrysler models with Takata airbags to stop driving immediately and have their airbag systems replaced. All replacement work is free and conducted at authorised repair centres. The firm states there is a severe risk of injury or death while driving with an unrepaired Takata airbag.

MG3 hatchback recalled in South Africa for risky seat mechanism

The newly relaunched MG brand has issued a safety recall for its MG3 hatchback.

The corrective action relates to a fault that, in a collision, could cause the seat frame to contact the seat adjustment mechanism, resulting in minor movement along the seat rail. This, it said, could increase the risk of injury.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) said the recall affects 209 MG3 hatchbacks that were sold across South Africa from August 30 onwards.

“Owners of affected vehicles are advised to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised MG dealership for a service measure,” the NCC said in a statement on Thursday.

It said all inspection and corrective work relating to the recall would be carried out at no cost to the consumer.

Launched in late August, the Chinese-built MG3 is available in two engine variants in South Africa, with the normally aspirated 1.5-litre version pushing 81kW and the hybrid+ powertrain option offering a combined output of 155kW.

It is available in two trim variants, with the Comfort priced from R269,900 and the Luxury priced from R344,900.

Oshkosh Recalls Its Controversial New Mail Carrier Van Because Its Rear Wheels Might Fall Off - Jalopnik​

American industrial and military vehicle manufacturing giant Oshkosh is recalling 40 of its controversial Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDVs) because their rear wheels might fall off due to a manufacturing issue. The recall includes 10 electric NGDVs and 30 gas-powered NGDVs.

After investigation of two field cases where rear wheels fell off, Oshkosh determined the cause of the fault to be a double-torqued hub fastener that may come loose over time and allow the brake rotor to separate from the rear axle hub.

Regardless of their fuel type, affected NGDVs were produced between March 28 and July 16 last year, and the only potential warning of the fault and possible wheel loss is an audible noise as contact is made between the brake rotor and rear axle hub.

According to the NHTSA recall report, Oshkosh will provide a procedure to affected customers for the replacement and torquing of new rear axle hub fasteners, and since all NGDVs involved in the recall are still under their new vehicle warranty, owners won't need to be reimbursed for the repairs.

Another 87,000 BMWs Recalled Over Engine Starters That Can Catch Fire - Autoblog​

BMW of North America has announced a recall of 87,394 vehicles due to a fire risk from an engine starter that could overheat. Submitted on January 30, 2026, this newest recall follows several months of analysis into the starters equipped to a range of BMW products.

The issue came to light in September last year, when almost 200,000 models were initially recalled for a starter that could be a fire risk, even when the vehicle is parked. Since then, more tests have been conducted as BMW and its supplier, Valeo, work to resolve the issue.

The latest recall (#26V056) affects multiple BMWs sold in the United States, along with the Toyota GR Supra, which shares a platform and many components with the BMW Z4. Here’s a look at all models implicated in the new recall:

Of the 87,394 vehicles recalled, the 3 Series population is the largest at 46,384 models, while only 1,186 2 Series Coupe models are implicated. A further 803 Supras are to be recalled, too.

In September last year, several vehicles with engine starters showing thermal damage had been identified, but the root cause was unknown at that point. The new BMW starter motor recall states that wear on an internal component of the engine starter could result in starter overheating and a potential fire. A buildup of metallic material because of abrasion in the electrical relay chamber was also discovered last month. These findings go deeper than the thermal damage detected last September.

Dealers will replace the engine starter at no cost to customers, with customer letters to be mailed on March 24, 2026.

VW Polo Vivo: NCC says nearly 26 000 units are being recalled

Volkswagen has reportedly issued a safety recall for nearly 26 000 Polo Vivo units sold across South Africa over the past year. Here’s what you need to know…

- NCC says recall includes 25 729 units
- Potential handbrake issue a “safety risk”
- Both 2025 and 2026 model years included

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) says Volkswagen Group Africa has issued a safety recall for nearly 26 000 units of the Polo Vivo hatchback sold in South Africa over the past year, citing a potential issue with the locally built model’s handbrake lever.

According to the NCC, the recall action includes as many as 25 729 units of the Polo Vivo – which retained the title of SA’s best-selling passenger car last year – registered across South Africa from February 2025 to February 2026. We’re currently awaiting comment from VW Group Africa and will update this article with any additional details once we hear back.

The NCC statement says the “rivet height on the handbrake lever fitted to the affected vehicles may be outside the required specification”, adding that in such cases, the handbrake “may not engage properly or could, in rare cases, disengage unexpectedly”, which poses “a safety risk, particularly when the vehicle is parked on an incline”.

According to the NCC, Volkswagen Group Africa has advised owners of affected vehicles to take “precautionary measures until the vehicle has been inspected and, where necessary, repaired”.

 
In another more detailed article I read earlier, this is what the 'precautionary measures' actually are:

1. If it is a manual transmission Polo Vivo, ENGAGE FIRST GEAR AS WELL AS THE HANDBRAKE when parking - do NOT park on an incline whenever possible - and if you do have to do so, turn the steering by one rotation so that the wheels point towards the kerb / pavement / verge BEFORE removing the ignition key & locking the steering wheel.

2. If it is an automatic transmission Polo Vivo, ENGAGE 'PARK' AS WELL AS THE HANDBRAKE when parking - do NOT park on an incline whenever possible - and if you do have to do so, turn the steering by one rotation so that the wheels point towards the kerb / pavement / verge BEFORE removing the ignition key & locking the steering wheel.
 

Jaecoo 7 recalled: a quarter of all brand’s 2025 UK cars going back to dealers - Auto Express​

Jaecoo has issued a recall for thousands of its Jaecoo 7 SUVs in the UK following an electronic issue.

Specifically, the problem revolves around a wiring harness clip connected to the car’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This, according to the European Union’s Safety Gate website, has not been attached correctly in some vehicles, resulting in engine warning lights and potentially even causing the car to randomly stall.

As many as 7,500 Jaecoo 7 models manufactured between April and December 2025 are thought to potentially be affected, roughly a quarter (26 per cent) of all the cars the Chinese brand sold here last year.

Jaecoo says the 1.6-litre TGi petrol model is the only powertrain affected by the recall; those running a 7 plug-in hybrid can rest easy. It’s also worth pointing out that the Omoda 5, which shares the Jaecoo’s powertrain, is not being recalled for the moment.

A spokesperson told Auto Express that customers will be notified of the recall “through relevant channels”. We were also told: “At the same time, Jaecoo UK will contact users via CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems and authorised dealerships to provide them with free vehicle inspections and repairs.”

In the meantime, the Chinese manufacturer has made clear that this is not a ‘stop-drive’ recall; customers are free to continue driving their cars for the time being while they wait for their repair. The global production process has also been rectified in order to prevent the issue from cropping up again.

This is one of the first recalls Jaecoo has experienced after entering the UK market last year.

Of course it's to be taken seriously. That's why Takata had to do the largest automotive recall ever at the time, and soon after went bankrupt. Still worth checking your VIN against it. They tended to recall mostly on the higher end.
