The longest you've ever gone without sleeping?

You're missing a bracket after "record holder" :) I included it in the quote above.

From that link:

It is often claimed that Gardner's experiment demonstrated that extreme sleep deprivation has little effect, other than the mood changes associated with tiredness (mood swings, short temper, loss of concentration).[5] This is primarily due to a report by researcher William Dement, who stated that on the tenth day of the experiment, Gardner had been, among other things, able to beat Dement at pinball.

However, Lt. Cmdr. John J. Ross, who monitored his health, reported serious cognitive and behavioral changes. These included moodiness, problems with concentration and short term memory, paranoia, and hallucinations. On the fourth day he had a delusion that he was Paul Lowe winning the Rose Bowl, and that a street sign was a person. On the eleventh day, when he was asked to subtract seven repeatedly, starting with 100, he stopped at 65. When asked why he had stopped, he replied that he had forgotten what he was doing.[1]

Jeez, people can be kinda cruel in the name of science:

In the case of rats, however, continuous sleep deprivation for about two weeks or more inevitably caused death in experiments conducted in Allan Rechtschaffen's sleep laboratory at the University of Chicago. Two animals lived on a rotating disc over a pool of water, separated by a fixed wall. Brainwaves were recorded continuously into a computer program that almost instantaneously recognized the onset of sleep. When the experimental rat fell asleep, the disc was rotated to keep it awake by bumping it against the wall and threatening to push the animal into the water. Control rats could sleep when the experimental rat was awake but were moved equally whenever the experimental rat started to sleep. The cause of death was not proven but was associated with whole body hypermetabolism.

Slept 5 hours Thursday night got up at 5:30 Friday morning finally went back to sleep on Sunday morning 10. So that makes it 52 hours? right? Was a horrible.... Did not even get a thank you!! Worst of all was that everybody else at some stage went home to sleep, when it was my turn it was just too busy and i had too stay, that was one of the times i fell a sleep behind the wheel.
Thank goodness I’m finished with the entertainment industry!!!

This one time in band camp... I think mine is around Friday to Sunday night - was horrible.

This thread is hillarious. All the folks that post in the AM times can't even string together proper sentences :p ;) :D

Spelling and grammar errors gallore :p ROFL. Sleep please, you need it.

kiepie, just know that you will die from not sleeping quicker than without water.

take a nap at least man.

They say some people never wake up again... But if I keep it under 3 days I feel safe! :p

Friday morning to Sunday night. Final weekend of my fraternity's aptly named Hell Week.

EDIT - no drugs - not even caffeine. :o

Thought you would be up there somewhere tera, maybe an odd 40+?

PS This always comes up when I quote your posts! :p

You have included 10 images in your message. You are limited to using 8 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

Nah, I love my sleep :p ;) :D I've had 3 days however last week where I slept like an hour and that's it. I really feel crappy when that happens, look like a train wreck or druggy and really suck at my job :p

Gnite, it's my bedtime ;)

Well I was in the Organizing Committee for a student conference, so while there was kark loads of work, it was a heck of a fun time... people keep you awake:D The only reason was due to me being (among the only) responsible people there and lacking the energy to punch others in the face. When I finally went to sleep - I was woken up half an hour later, raced to where the problem was, found out they didn't need me after all - freaked out, broke the guys nose and went back to my room.

No coffee, just litres and litres of coke and a few red bulls.

I would lose it as well...;)

How long where you awake though?

I stay awake 30 hours quite regularly, hence the late posts. Bad habit, picked it up since matric finals, can't seem to have a regular sleep pattern. Internet and Series don't help!
What could the implications on my health be?
Mind you, i can sleep for 12-18 hours straight as well!

Whats the longest you have ever stayed awake

So i got to work on sunday morning at 9 (was awake at 8) and only got home at 1 yesterday afternoon. (Tight deadlines FTW)
So by my calculations i was up for around 30 hours.
Man what a good sleep.

Whats the longest you have done?

When I was a plaas boy we used to do 72 hours straight every 2 months sending chickens to the abattoir at night and normal work and prep work during the day. It's tough but you sleep so well after that.

There was a thread like this...

Yeah, and recently...

Anyway, apart from the LAN events back in my youth, the most exhausting experience of my life so far was working from 09:00 in the morning to about 05:00 the next morning to get 2 hours sleep and clean and eat something. This was repeated for about a week and half working on deadlines as well.

So:
Normal sleep for 1 week @ 8 hours = 56Hours
My sleep for that week @ 2 hours = 14Hours

Longest ever was at a LAN some years back. Woke up 7 on Friday morning, worked all day, went to the LAN after work, lanned all night, all day saturday, all saturday night and all sunday. Got home and slept at 5 Sunday afternoon.

Roughly 59 hours. Never again! :D
