The LONMIN share price thread

Phoned them, guy sounded awkward and had no idea why it was "blocked"

While browsing this thread, you could see however that some people could trade while others couldn't.

Quite hit and miss at times.

As if I had a gut feel, I traded today using my OST account instead of the EE :)

@Ying, please tell us more about OST, is it the Standard bank platform?
Yes, however if you're trading smallish (say sub 1000 amounts) then it gets a bit pricey to trade because a trade will cost you around R57 on average.

So for small amounts I'd say its more worth your while to stick with EE.

If you have the cash though, there are lots of advantages in using OST, for example many more types of instruments, not just shares: CFD's, SSF's, currency futures (if you want to hedge against the Rand's weakness for example), etc.

You also have the advantage of putting stops and limits on your trades. For example if one of your holdings drop with more than 10% you can instruct the platform to sell. Or to buy/sell a certain share as soon as it crosses a certain amount.

You can also short sell certain instrruments. That means you can sell a derivative without actually first owning it (the bank buys it on your behalf and you then speculate on whether its value will go up or down)

Its must more versatile

Thanks!

I really need to look into it.... just imagine what one could have made with properly configured buy and sell thresholds on Lonmin today.

The fact that I can't buy and sell as I want is really off puting from Easy Equities...

I'm going to request my thread on them be deleted. Fsck them, will never promote such unprofessional and unethical behaviour...

I just signed up for them after using Standard banks trading site. Dammit. Should I proceed or stay away?

What notification services do you guys use?
Considering setting up a Sharenet sms notification service to notify me if the Lonmin stocks get to 50c again
You can send us your high and low values for a share, as soon as the price goes above your high or falls below your low we will send you an SMS to alert you to that fact. Never miss out on an opportunity because you were out to lunch again!

Are there any other/better similar services?

And you imagine they are going to bail out a listed company that they have no financial stake in with tax payers money? And you imagine they are going to do this in a way that protects Lonmin's current shareholders? That doesn't sound like stable ground for investment in my opinion.

You don't seem to comprehend what political pressure means.

The ANC aint bailing out anyone
