Not necessarily. How many GPs do you think come into contact with corpses? Very few! Kate was a GP.

It doesn't have to be a full corpse. Could have been a gangrene amputation or exposure to another doctor who had contact. Those sniffer dogs are good but the can be fooled.

Quite the alibi saying you had close contact with dead bodies when the dogs pick up a scent in your vehicle.

Having access to medicines is also good when you have a hyperactive child like Maddie.

German TV show on Maddie receives 500 calls, emails

A German broadcaster said Thursday it received more than 500 phone calls and emails after airing a programme on the 2007 disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann in Portugal.

Maddie's parents launched an emotional appeal for information to help them find their daughter on the ZDF public television show "Aktenzeichen XY... ungeloest" which is similar to the BBC's "Crimewatch".

"Please have the compassion and courage to tell us what happened to her," her mother Kate McCann said on the programme watched by 7.26 million people, its highest rating in 15 years.

"After the broadcast of... Aktenzeichen XY, the number of tip-offs rose to more than 500," said a spokesman for the broadcaster who cautioned it was not known how much of the information would prove useful.

Maddie disappeared from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007, just days before her fourth birthday while the parents were in a nearby tapas bar.

Scotland Yard this week launched a major new appeal in Britain, the Netherlands and Germany asking for information to help solve the case, and senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood also appeared on the TV programme.

Redwood said witnesses had spotted a man in the Ocean Club resort area who was carrying a young child toward the beach, and that he was the likely kidnapper. He was described as white, aged between 20 and 40, with short brown hair, of medium build, medium height and clean shaven.

Police also want to identify two other men, probably with short blond hair and possibly speaking German or Dutch, who had also been seen repeatedly near the apartment.

I will say this much, the tenacity and perserverence of Maddy's parents is something to admire. Some might have given up and accepted the loss, but they have pushed harder and harder to get answers and resolution. Roles reversed, God forbid, I could never give up until there was some sort of closure.

It seems that that is what keeps them going - "raison d'être"

Too little, too late.

I'd be HUGELY impressed with LE if they found her - or her kidnapper - after all these years.

Parents very pleased at new Portugal probe

The parents of Madeleine McCann said on Wednesday they were "very pleased" that Portuguese authorities were reopening their investigation into the disappearance of the British girl from a resort in 2007.

"We are very pleased that the investigation to find our missing daughter Madeleine has been officially reopened in Portugal," said Kate and Gerry McCann, who have led a six-year campaign to find their daughter.

"We hope that this will finally lead to her being found and to the discovery of whoever is responsible for this crime.

"We once again urge any member of the public who may have information relating to Madeleine's abduction to contact the police in Portugal or the UK."

Maddie vanished from the holiday apartment where her parents were staying in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz just days before her fourth birthday in May 2007, while they were dining at a nearby tapas bar.

Portuguese authorities closed their investigation into her disappearance in 2008 but the attorney general's office said on Wednesday that it had decided to reopen the inquiry "following a request by police due to new elements."

"Please be patient and respect the work of the police as they endeavour to find the answers we so desperately need," the McCanns said.

"In particular we request that the media consider carefully Madeleine's safety and the integrity of the investigation in their reporting."

British police spent two years reviewing it at the British government's request and opened their own probe in July this year, following which they released new electronic images of men they want to question.

Very generous of the McCanns considering how they were treated by the Portuguese police.

Maddie police in Portugal for possible arrests: Report

British police investigating the disappearance of toddler Madeleine McCann are in the Algarve, where they are meeting with Portuguese counterparts over the possible arrest of three suspects, British media reported Wednesday.

Four Scotland Yard detectives arrived on Tuesday for talks over the three-year-old's 2007 disappearance from a holiday apartment in the southern Algarve resort of Praia da Luz, according to the Daily Mirror.

Metropolitan Police would not confirm the report.

Portuguese authorities closed their investigation into her disappearance in 2008, but Scotland Yard spent two years reviewing it at the British government's request and opened their own probe in July last year.

The McCanns have led a six-year campaign to find Madeleine, who they believe was kidnapped and is still alive.

An unnamed source told the paper that the couple were "on tenterhooks" as they wait for further developments.

The suspects are believed to be part of a burglary gang.

So do they think the burglars are just waiting to be arrested? If you were a burglar and active during that time in that area and this child goes missing, is is not as if you are just hanging around to be arrested.

Secondly, why would burglars take a child? They are there to steal, not kill or abduct. There was absolutely no reason for burglars to take a child. This theory is a ridiculous one.

From what I understand the recent investigations centered on tracking the cellular phone calls made around the area at the time that Maddie dissapeared. They noticed an increase in cellular activity right after she was believed to be taken and they have supposedly now identified the owners of those phones. Can't remember where I saw this, but I think it was in one of the earlier articles I posted here.

But my point is if the alleged burglars took her they would obviously have seen the media coverage of the incident (which was huge) and would have gone into hiding a long time ago.

It was announced some time back that the police are planning to arrest the burglars that were active in that area during that period. So if we read it in the news, then so did they in all likelihood. So by the time the police got their ducks in a row, these guys will be long gone!

Ja, point taken.

Not everyone has the means to just flee the country, also if the person does become a person of interest the police could have had them tracked for the last 4-8 months.

The European police might just be a tad sharper than most of our local blues.

Pretty little girl ? Think again.

We are not in an ideal world.

Burglers simply stumbling upon a child and deciding to take her? Even in this country hijackers will drive a few kilometers and dump the baby or kid on the side of the road. Too much hassle, too much attention. Rather slip away quietly. When a child's involved it's a massive manhunt. Not worth it.

Not if there is an already established trafficking network in place.
She can completely dissapear in an hour or so if they knew the right people.
And there are people out there willing to pay.
I agree with Jola, this is a sick world we live in...
