The Manenberg Saga

Is it your responsibility to help a person dying on the side-walk?

It is my responsibility to get an ambulance or someone who has the capabilities of saving the said person.

In other words... who’s responsibility is it to keep us save… the police I would guess?

I see the intended message was completely lost on you, not unexpected from someone so socially blinkered he keeps his kids at home.

Whoa, let's lay off the personal attacks and keep this on topic.
My kids are my responsibility and always will be.

Those kids are not your responsibility or mine.
And even if my kids were in one of those schools, I would still be expecting the SAPS to protect them.

A socially important court order that was impractical.
Impractical? It's a ****ing security guard at the school.

A court can just as well order National Government to do the same to every school in SA and let's see how far that gets us.
A court could just as well have ordered me to do backflips. What the hell is your point?

This is it. Gatvol! I refuse to vote for the DA in the coming elections.

You need to go do some research. :wtf:

The Western Cape Department of Education have NO control over the police!

That's run by the SAPS, who is run by the ANC.

The City's Metro police have been deployed, but their resources are thin, as the national government refuses to do anything about it.

Helen asked for JZ to send the army in as the police can't handle it.
They say know, because the police must fulfill its mandate to protect the people.
There aren't enough SAPS and Metro staff to handle it all - and then the ANC goes mouthing off that DA run provinces are in ***.

ja but that's ages ago. its open warfare in those areas. those residents are under siege. it troubles me that nothing further has been done. actually pi$$es me off.

Why should their safety outside school be the education department's responsibility? SAPS? Department of Community Safety?

And they tried for how long to institute an inquiry into police conduct in Khayelitsha, only to be blocked at every corner by the national police minister.

that enquiry has started and ongoing the last I heard.

Ages ago, yes. But the status quo from national government is still the same.
They won't lift a finger to assist.

At least where I'm staying now in Ottery, opposite the blocks of flats which are Mongrels turf, the cops have a "Ruhmaan trok" (:p) standing on the open piece of land there.
Shootings have gone down a lot.
This happened after a kid got killed in the crossfire between rival gangs.

But that's some good that I know of. The cops 24/7 presence I mean.

ja but the townships are struggling. you hear stories of teenagers walking openly with weapons. they shoot at whoever they want. taxis are stopped, passengers robbed. parents afraid to send their kids to school. or if they send them they walk them to school themselves. ive never been afraid to go in there but lately ive been thinking twice.

True, it was featured on Special Assignment a week ago. I remember this young Khayelitsha woman on the show talking about mob justice: "If you do a crime we like beat youuuu...sometimes we burn youuuuu...."

Nice. "You're not helping the people, so I won't help the people."

I'm so glad you support gun ownership.
Next time I see a gangster I'll shoot him.

Better yet, let's make it bounty season, public participation. Also we send the education department for sniper training.

This is so cool. I like your view. Let's help the police and shoot the kill the scum. If they are not dead I can try and remove the bullet myself there on the sidewalk...

Oh boy you do have the best ideas!!

Who controls the SAPS, Police ministry and Department of Justice?

Police falls under national control and not provincial as far as I'm aware. So the provinces don't really have control over them.
