The Mass Effect 3 thread

It does have a cover system, as I recall, but nowhere near as fluid as ME2's. I do remember liking it though.

does ME1 have the cover system?

for some reason I think it doesnt. if it does, will definately play it this weekend :)

It's best to play ME1 first because the combat system in ME2 has been greatly enhanced. The cover system is not as good. If you play ME1 second, you might feel like you're taking a step backwards in terms of the combat, but it does have far more RPG elements.

for me, these games are 70% story telling(this includes levelup elements, the RPGness) , 30% combat, so I gotta give it a go

This is def true....
I finished ME2 before I even touched ME1.... and the whole control setup just feels "wrong".
I am used to pressing space to run to cover and to cover, now space brings up the tac window, and to cover you just run up to the cover and it covers automatically, it just feels so, so wrong.

But ME1 had the Maco!

I enjoyed the Maco, that was fun and quite disappointing that they left it out of ME2. The game mechanics in ME2 are so much better, but it freaked me out that they changed the controls from 1 to 2. I hope they stick with ME2's controls.

It is a shame that ME3 doesn't look like it will be on Steam.

Guess it is time to install the steaming pile that is Origin.

But ME1 had the Maco!

Military Assault Command Operations (commonly abbreviated as MACO) was a United Earth military organization in service on Earth during the 2150s, prior to the founding of the Federation. The MACOs (pronounced "MAY-ko") were not associated with the Starfleet. MACO weapons and technology were 3 years more advanced than those of Starfleet. (ENT: "Harbinger")

~ From here

The M35 Mako infantry fighting vehicle was designed for the Systems Alliance's frigates. It is designed to fulfill the role of rapid deployment that its predecessor, the M29 Grizzly, fell short of accomplishing. Though the interior is cramped, an M35 is small enough to be carried in the cargo bay and easily deployed on virtually any world.

There are spelling Nazis, there are grammar nNazis, but no Nazi is worse than a Stargeek Nazi.

;) Just kidding, I couldnt resist the chance to edumacate. Please forgive. This one will move to another area and be less bothersome.

Don't be a drama queen, it was always gonna be exclusive to Origin, and seriously if installing something as trivial as origin is too much to ask... then IDK.

Anyhoot, I finished the Arrival DLC last night. Pretty quick play through, but it sets the scene perfectly. March 12th feels so far away now !

Demo downloaded, can't wait to get home and give it a bash! Plus the multiplayer option will be available from Friday, so that should keep me busy until the release.

Somebody has posted a 50 minute playthrough of the demo on Youtube for you guys who are into spoilers and stuff. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/mass-effect-3/1218535p1.html

Did the demo have to end?

Wow this one's going to be epic guys, I rate even better than ME2.

Pros:
- Looks better.
- Combat is much slicker and quicker.
- You no longer run out of stamina when running (trust me you'll need it, the difficulty's been cranked up a notch).
- Soundtrack is better.
- The new heavy melee attack is insanely satisfying to use.
- You get the sense that the story is going to be great.

Cons:
- Cover seems to be a bit glitched. If you pop out of cover from the left or right, you sometimes stare into the wall/cover object and end up shooting it because you can't see the enemy.
- Recharge times for powers seem to be insanely long, on average it's something like 20 seconds. Even after levelling up and upgrading your powers, you'll be lucky to get it down to 10 seconds. Hoping that there are other ways to reduce power recharge times, maybe stuff like biotic amps and omnitool upgrades from ME2.
- The final release is still 3 weeks away :(

I know you can pick up ME1 from any of the major stores like Look&Listen/Musica for R80. ME2 is still hovering around R200. So I think you're better off getting them from Steam if $19.99 is the price for the combo.
