A real pity no longer offered in SA.

"Mazda is looking to do no less with the 2017 Mazda 6 than deliver a flagship offering a foundation for the perfect driver-car relationship.

It is a rather simple concept: The driverprovides input via controls like the steering wheel, pedals and gearshift. The vehicle, meanwhile, does what it's told and supplies feedback.

Mazda is continually striving to perfect the concept, because effective communication between man and machine not only makes driving safer, but also more satisfying, more rewarding and more fun. Mazda calls this relationship Jinba Ittai, and to continue enhancing the "oneness" of driving its flagship, the carmaker looked at things from the customer perspective.

The 2017 Mazda 6 is therefore the first model in Europe (along with the 2017 Mazda 3) to get the carmaker's world-unique G-Vectoring Control, which regulates engine output to improve both responsiveness and stability, particularly in curves. It's the first system in the brand-new SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS line-up, a product of Mazda's human-centric vehicle development approach that enables integrated Jinba Ittai-enhancing control over SKYACTIV engines, transmissions and platforms."

Such a pity they've stopped selling it. It was my next upgrade once someone has taken the depreciation knock.
I heard that HondaSA will also stop selling the Accord, I didn't fact check this so it might be nonsense. Maybe someone here might know.

Mazda is fast becoming my favourite Japanese car brand. Dat estate.

Accord is already pulled buddy

Wow. I am guessing that the reason they pulled the Accord is because of their pricing versus that of zee Germans? Because of the South African mentality of status is everything, and the fact that zee Germans are seen as status symbols, you will never sell cars when they're priced so closely.

Oh well, that's a pity. I really liked the Accord, just not the crap that was the US-spec Accord.

Indeed. Mazda are making some amazing looking cars.

Sales + dumbness of the US version + new Civic pitched higher up.

But yeah your points as well lol

Euro Accord = lovely

US Accord = turd

There was a tweet by Mazda SA a while back that the 6 will return

Also the 2017 CX5 facelift should be released by end of the year

Facelifted Mazda 6 saloon previewed ahead of LA motor show

Mazda exec will get a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with comparable torque to a V8, but it won't be available in the UK

he Mazda 6 will be updated for 2018 with revised styling and a new range-topping engine.

Design tweaks bring the saloon into line with the CX-5 SUV, with a simplified front end that sticks to Mazda’s uncomplicated Kodo design strategy.

A new 2.5-litre turbocharged Skyactiv-G petrol engine has been added. This features cylinder shut-off technology for greater fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.

Mazda claims that this engine’s torque is comparable to that of a 4.0-litre V8 engine, although stops short of quantifying the claim with a figure. It’s unlikely that this engine will make it into UK cars, as it’s currently offered only in the US-only CX-9 large SUV.

The 6's updated interior features more upmarket materials, Mazda claims, with sen wood trim giving a nod to traditional Japanese furniture.

Technology updates include an upgrade to the car’s adaptive cruise control, which can now bring the car to a stop. There are also updated safety sensors and an around-view monitor for parking.

A Mazda spokesman confirmed that a UK-spec 6 will be shown closer to the car’s on-sale date in 2018, although it’s not yet known when and where this will be.

‘Re-Engineered’ Mazda6 To Get 2,5-Litre Turbo-Petrol!

Mazda has confirmed that it will reveal a “thoroughly re-engineered and refined” version of its Mazda6 at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, complete with turbo power.

The current, third-generation version of the Japanese automaker’s flagship sedan will receive its third round of updates since debuting back in 2012.

And, rather interestingly, the brand says that its 2,5-litre Skyactiv-G turbocharged petrol engine will be added to the line-up in some markets. Although power figures have yet to be confirmed, the same engine makes 170 kW and 420 N.m in the Mazda CX-9.

Mazda has so far released just two images of the updated model, saying that the “styling improvements” result in a look of “greater maturity and composure”. The cabin, meanwhile, has been tweaked and features some new materials, including Japanese Sen Wood. Furthermore, various of the Mazda6’s driver assistance functions have been updated.

The Mazda6 was discontinued in South Africa in 2016 thanks to flagging sales. But Mazda Southern Africa managing director hinted to CARmag.co.za earlier this year that the local arm was “looking at the viability” of re-introducing the flagship sedan once it had been updated.

First look: 2018 Mazda6 is getting turbo power

Remember the Mazda6? Mazda’s large and rather classy looking sedan was dropped from the South African market last year due to a lack of demand locally, but it is soldiering on happily abroad and soon there will be a new version, sporting a turbo engine.

Although it’s more of a comprehensive update of the third-generation Mazda6 of 2012 than an actual new model, Mazda says that its large sedan has been “thoroughly re-engineered” and it will also offer turbopetrol power for the first time since the second-gen MPS.

This will come in the form of Mazda’s new 186kW 2.5-litre turbopetrol engine that was introduced in the recently redesigned CX-9 SUV. It has yet to be seen whether the model will receive all-wheel-drive or if the motor will make its way under the bonnet of other Mazda models such as the CX-5 and Mazda3.

Mazda will also offer an updated version of its 2.5-litre normally activated 'Skyactiv' petrol engine, now featuring cylinder deactivation.

Mazda has only released two pictures of the revised Mazda6 sedan ahead of its scheduled debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of the month, but we do get a peek at the new front end, featuring a large grille with a chrome surround that juts into the headlights.

Mazda also supplied an interior picture, showing a redesigned dashboard that now features Japanese Sen Wood and other upgraded materials.

But will the updates be enough to convince Mazda SA to give its large sedan another try on our market? It’s not impossible but we wouldn’t hold our breath.

Mazda 6

The re-engineered Mazda6 certainly delivers all of the above, elevating Mazda6 from its traditional competitive set into a higher class, with unparalleled craftsmanship, design and technologies for the driver who savors every moment behind the wheel. Yet, Mazda6 is also serene, thoroughly reworked underneath its sheet metal to deliver a refined experience befitting of a far more expensive car.

A Signature Path Forward

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 three-row crossover SUV was a remarkable step for Mazda. It once again elevated Mazda, showing if Mazda built an SUV with superior driving dynamics, class-above refinement, an abundance of amenities, technology and a strong engine, customers would come. After more than a year since going on sale, approximately 55 percent of all Mazda CX-9 crossover SUVs sold in the U.S. have been either high-level Grand Touring models or top-trim Signature models-an unusually high number.

The Signature trim level has been well received, selling more than twice as well as expected, and attracting customers who are trading up from traditional luxury brands.

It was natural, then, that Mazda would follow this plan with its flagship sedan. Mazda6 has received improvements every year it has been on sale. Updates for the previous model year added more sound insulation throughout its cabin and available Nappa leather interior appointments. Mazda6 also received standard G-Vectoring Control, a Mazda-exclusive technology that makes steering response more direct and linear by using a minute reduction of engine torque at turn-in to put extra weight on the front tires.

Mazda SA you savage bastards! Why did you discontinue this model is SA.

I was going to get one, one day when I became a real boy!

I blame the SUV lovers.
I have an older Mazda 6 and I go everywhere their silly soft roaders can go. SUV, same car, little higher much more expensive and no more practical.
