The Mazda CX-5 Thread

How is the experience using the Mazda Tweaks option? I contemplated doing it on my Mazda 2 but it already had the nav card so didn't really need AA. I won't spend 5k on a SD card again though, it's an absolute rip off when you get maps free with AA (although the Mazda nav is not bad).
Honestly I have no complaints, it just works. Once it's up and running you wouldn't know it's unofficial. Only time you can tell is when it switches over to AA and the animation isn't smooth and it takes 2 seconds or so.

Niice! Sweet shade of blue. What's the official name for the hue?

According to the original ad it is "Ocean Blue" but I don't see that colour option for the 2018 model anywhere and I don't think it was available for the 2017 either. That's possibly just a made up colour they put in there, it looks closer to the "Eternal Blue Mica" on the official CX-5 page though.

Did you do the Mazda tweaks under warranty still. Mine is still under warranty, so not comfortable doing it under warranty still.

Would it be an issue if it's done still under warranty. What about other modifications like adding stuff on the outside. Will it affect warranty at all.

I did mine under warranty. Took it in for services without removing the tweaks(could have but, meh), either they never noticed or didn't care. I'm handy with flashing, mods, jailbreaks etc so I wasn't too worried about screwing anything up. And even if I did I would be able to get things back up and running.

What do you mean "modifications". Depends on what you add, if you screw with the wiring by connecting lights and electronics you're looking for trouble but superficial things wont be an issue(guards, covers and things)

Mazda Will Now Retrofit Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on Older Models

The popular technology can be integrated into previous-model-year Mazdas, and there's faster device charging, too.

Good news for Mazda owners suffering from the effects of tech envy: The maker has announced a program to retroactively integrate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality to 2014 or newer model Mazda vehicles that are already equipped with the Mazda Connect infotainment system. The automaker was not an early adopter of the technology, which has been increasingly available on new vehicles from various manufacturers since 2016. The first Mazda to get the popular services was the 2018 Mazda 6, followed by the 2019 CX-5 and CX-9.

More than just a software bump, the upgrade includes the latest version of Mazda Connect with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. It also upgrades the USB ports to more powerful and faster-charging 2.1-amp units. Smartphone applications will function through the Smart Command interface via the multifunction control knob, shortcut buttons, or voice commands.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow users to project many of the functions and apps from their smartphone to the in-dash screen in the vehicle after plugging the phone in to the vehicle using a USB. The advantage is that the vehicle's screen then automatically incorporates the user’s personal settings and apps and looks similar to the familiar smartphone interface.

Owners of applicable vehicles interested in having the upgrade performed should contact their Mazda dealership. The service is priced at $199 plus labor and is estimated to require two hours to complete.

Me too, can't wait for it. Pricing probably in the region of 3 to 4.5k

Yep, I would expect it to be around there too. Still cheaper than buying buying Mazda's navigation - I have a feeling this is why they have been fannying about with Carplay/AA support for so long as they must be making massive amounts of easy money with those nav SD cards.

Afaik Mazda is the only guys doing this (retrofitting AA & CP to cars from up to 3/4 years ago).

Everybody else is like "you want AA & CP"? "Buy a new car".

What's the reason why other car manufacturers of older vehicles are not going this route. Does this all got to do with $$$
