The Mazda CX-5 Thread

If Mazda SA would just sell me the new usb port my install would have been finished already. I'll probably import it before they eventually release it, what is there to test? Mazda has rolled it out worldwide, the hardware is identical in all countries and the software comes straight from Mazda. MazdaSA has nothing to test!

Sigh, i guess they will eventually release it so there's that

If Mazda SA launches the 2.5 Turbo Petrol with AA and CP in 2019, that will most certainly lead to me making a very foolish money-decision there and then! :X3:

I went and asked one of the Mazda dealers and got told we won’t be getting the 2.5T . But we will be getting an update though for 2019. New 19inch rims, AA and CarPlay, some minor interior improvements and new leather seats.

I was told the same a few months ago when the 2.5T was announced for Aus and US. Was hoping they would reconsider for SA.
450 diesel Newtons will have to do then ;-)

Would be great if they would add the 360 camera and adaptive cruise control to local Akera spec but I appreciate that keeping the price at a respectable level is more important to Mazda SA.

Those are some features I wouldn’t mind paying if I’m going for the top of the range Akera. Do wonder how much more it would cost with those features.

I believe the adaptive cruise control uses the the same sensors/radar as the auto/emergency braking system and it already has that, so adding that option together with 360 cameras surely could not fetch more than R10K.
I for one would gladly sacrifice the white elephant sunroof for those features.

Anybody driven the uprated diesel model? Is there a noticeable difference in the drive?

You referring to the 2018 Akera 2.2L AWD? Would like to know how it compares to the 2015-2017 2.2D Akera Diesels

The 2017-2018 2.2 Diesel has 129kW/420Nm, single scroll turbo.
The May 2018 upgrade looks the same, has the same 2.2 diesel engine now tweaked to 140kW/450Nm and has twinscroll turbo mitigating lag at low rpm.
I've driven both and the 140kW version sounds more refined, quieter inside due to more sound insulation material and has little initial lag off the line.
However, unless you pay attention to these things, I don't think the difference should detract one from a good 129kW 2017- April 2018 model deal.

This video gives one a good idea:

Minimal upgrade then

Much improved 0-100 though:thumbsup:

Mazda still quote 9.5secs 0-100 on the updated model. Why would they under quote themselves to this extent when in perfect conditions it does a sub 8 sec?
Wonder what the acceleration figures will be in the 2.5T..

And it seems he uses a potato for a camera.

On his one video I tried to watch he is standing outside in the wind, there is so much wind noise in the mic you can hardly make out what he's saying. I just don't understand when you're editing that video you realise you can't hear anything and just re-record the damn audio and dub it over.
