The Mazda CX-5 Thread

Changing tyre sizes influences things like the accuracy of speedometers and odometers. It has a very small effect on performance. No, there is another reason for sluggish performance, such as the choice of automatic transmission.
What power and torque is available and what type of transmission is installed?
Mazda has cvt transmissions and the diesels have 129kw and petrol 141kw I think.

Anything lower like the NA models I won't advise to upsizing your tyres

I actually don't feel the extra fuel increase, I get 8L/100km on normal driving and just over 8 if I really drive like a POS.

So you also have the auto box in your 2.5L. I was worried the 1.5% difference in increase diameter will damage the transmission, but so far so good.

My next project is spacers now, 20mm in front and 25mm in rear. I know that this will wear out bearings in the long term, but I drive normally and the occasional speeding. I've seen pics on the Mazda forum how good they look with spacers. Deriam is making them and costing about 3k
I asked Mazda and they said the increase was fine. Maybe it is doing damage but with no change in performance/behavior it is hard to know unless you get the box looked at or if it one day goes bang. What do you do in the scenario of needing a new tyre of the original profile but unable to source it. That was the position I was in, there was no stock of the original profile and I was told by multiple suppliers I had to wait almost 2 months for stock to come in.

It is a torque converter not CVT.

Spacers? Explain please? The only reason for installing spacers on the wheels is to restore/improve the C/L of the wheel in relation to bearings when changing rims. If just for cosmetic looks then reconsider the idea.
The offset of the CX-5 is 50 which is too much inside the fender imo. I want to make it flush with the fender. I'm doing it just for looks, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

Oh, I see now

It's weird Mazda would use that uncommon size. 235 /55 would be ideal, but for performance and fuel efficiency they used that size.

245x50x19 would be almost identical, but too scarce and pricey unfortunately.

I still have my old set with about 30/40% on in case I need to use them in an emergency.

How much does a new or replacement tranny cost. My guarantee with 3rd party is still active until next year in case I need to use it.

Since mine is a auto diesel and AWD makes it a very expensive repair if something happens to my car

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel Is Too Little, Too Late

Verdict

I appreciate that the CX-5 diesel exists. Variety is nice, and this is a nice idea. Agreeable as a daily driver, it has an impressively quality interior, too. Also, props to Mazda for building a diesel car that, you know, doesn’t cheat. (We think.)

But I also can’t shake the feeling this car sort of missed the boat. Had it come out 10ish years ago like it was supposed to, it probably would have had a fighting chance, since hybrids weren’t as prevalent and diesel’s reputation hadn’t been messed up beyond repair yet.

Look, I know there are people out there who don’t care about anemic engines. They prioritize efficiency over acceleration and silly stuff like that, so they wouldn’t have the same gripes about the CX-5 diesel’s performance as I did. But what reason would those people have to buy the Mazda when plenty of better hybrid cars are readily available for less money?

Mazda is also planning a Mazda6 diesel for a little later on. I’ll wait and see the EPA mileage estimates when they’re made public, but I won’t hold my breath. The diesel 6 will go up against some tough competition.

And as for this CX-5 diesel? Good car, but maybe it should have been a hybrid.

Hi Guys

Need some advice on a new car battery for my cx-5. Current battery needs urgent replacing. It has a 80ah CCA 782 stop start battery.

Mazda has quoted me R2600 for a similar battery. Do you think it's excessive for the price tag or reasonable. Reason I want them to do it so I get the guarantee and warranty if anything goes balls on the electronics side.

Some other place quoted me R2500 for a fulmen brand with similar specs.

Should I stick with Mazda and let them do it or get it perhaps cheaper and driving around and replacing it myself.

What's your thoughts on this

If Mazda were charging R1000 or more I would consider going to the aftermarket place but for just R100 more I might as well go the Mazda route

So Mazda replaced with a new battery, it's a Exide SMF39 80ah CCA680 for R2200 as the labour was R390.

Car feels much better, lighter and torque is better now. istop also on most of the time as it's quickly fully charged.

My DRL also went in this space of time. Cost is 25k for the left hand side, luckily Innovation has covered it. No stock in the the country and have to wait 3 months for delivery from Japan. right hand side was also replaced 18 months ago for R15k.

Just glad I got the 3rd party warranty for free from the previous owner.

Huh? 40k for DRLs? As in the small LED lights? Do they replace the entire headlight?

2.2 DE Active or 2.0 Dynamic Auto? What would be the advantage of the one over the other?

Power and torque on the diesel is amazing vs creature comforts on the dynamic petrol. Price of the active is significantly more though.

Any problems with the Diesel? I know someone who has the Dynamic and he has had zero issues so far. That's my only concern. Oh, and leather seats :)

I test drove the diesel but ended up going for the dynamic petrol. The diesel was out of my price range. If I could choose right now, I'd go with the diesel. Most of the features are still there.

If you want power/torque and good pull away and drive then diesel, but for relaxing drive in traffic or freeway the auto.

Luckily I've got both, so no complaints. If I were you I would choose the auto as it will make it a more pleasant driving experience.
