The Mazda CX-5 Thread

Hi Guys

Not sure if you have seen it, but their has been recalls for Mazda 3, 6 and CX-5 between 2012 and 2018.

Anyone know if Mazda SA knows about it or doing anything about it?
I guess my 2015 2.2D Akera is affected

Several model lines recalled for potential issues with diesel engines sold between 2012 and 2018.

Mazda Australia has issued a recall for 35,476 diesel versions of its Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and CX-5 model lines over concerns build-up of carbon deposits could cause premature wear of certain engine components.

According to the Japanese brand, "The affected vehicles may accumulate carbon deposits in the intake shutter valve".

If the condition occurs, the following issues may be presented:

  • A gradual drop of engine power
  • Multiple warning lights to display on the driver's dashboard
  • A gradual increase in vehicle stopping distance
  • Potential engine stall with no restart
  • Smoke may emit from the engine compartment
Mazda says all of the above symptoms pose a hazard or accident risk to the vehicle's occupants and other road users.

Affected vehicles were available for sale between 26 January 2012 and 10 August 2018. In terms of model years by model line, the Mazda 3 diesel falls between MY14 and MY16, the Mazda 6 diesel between MY12 and MY18, and the CX-5 diesel between MY12 and MY18.

There are a total of 35,476 vehicles affected across all three model lines – a VIN list is available here.

Owners of the recalled models will be contacted by Mazda Australia, and instructed to schedule an appointment with their preferred dealer for repairs once parts become available. A software update to the ECU will also be completed – all free of charge.

I have a new issue :/ it’s not as bad as the old one but still annoying. My right mirror doesn’t unfold properly all the time, sometimes it does other times it unfolds 1/3 or half way. I have to then toggle the fold unfold switch to get it to open completely.

Anyone else had this? I think the dealership is going to be sick of me soon.

I got a worrying check engine light on my CX-5 this morning on the way to work. Had anyone run into this before? Oy about 10800km

My sister had a check engine light on her new CX-3 recently because one of the battery terminals was loose.

I did take it in this morning. They said the needed to reset the ECM and do an update. Seems to have sorted the problem out.

I have the previous Gen 2015 Model 2.0 Active Auto. Any help with an annoying rattle on the back door. Mazda keeps on saying it's the spoiler, they tighten it and two three weeks later, comes back again...! Any permanent fix solution...?

Anyone also replaced the battery, and how much is it for genuine StopStart battery, my wife put in a nonStop Start, the iStop has acting up ever since, two months later......?

This car has been a dream, four and half years later and 150 000km later, Not a days problems with the drivetrain mechanicals, just been going on like clockwork.. Just finished paying it off and looking to keep it for at least another four years while I payoff my house!!!!

I also had a rattle at the back, turns out it was my license plate rattling after a cold start. Shoved some double sided tape in there and it seems to be gone now.

Do you think they'll ever roll out an update for Mazda Connect to bring it to the same version as the new Mazda 3?

That is a cop out on their part. They had no clue what caused the alarm. ---- A reset will clear anything even real important alarms. And the update is just another way to get rid of you. Wait a while and see if it comes back.

As you predicted... Had a small shudder and then the traction control and engine lights came on followed by a loss of power.

Great kilos covered and good feedback about ownership.

Not sure where you are based but when I had issues I was bounced around from pillar to post when I dealt with Mazda fourways. I eventually went to Mazda woodmead, they took the issue seriously, they had the car for about 7 days but fixed it and made sure they tested the crap out of it.

I have been dealing with Woodmead. This issue happened twice so far. The first time the didn't even create a job card when I took it in. The gentleman behind the desk was a bit rude. The second time the lady was very helpful.

They couldn't find anything on the diagnostics seeing that the light was off by the time I got to them, which I find extremely odd. The told me to just monitor jt.
