Mazda CX-5 - new SUV to be priced from £24k

The second-generation CX-5 heralds a 'new era' of passenger comfort and simple design; on sale in June

Mazda’s second-generation CX-5 will go on sale in the UK this June and is expected to be priced from £24,000.

That starting price would make it around £800 more than the equivalent current generation model, which is more than rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.

The SUV was first revealed at the Los Angeles motor show and shows Mazda is looking to continue its global momentum, spurred on by the popularity of SUVs.

The manufacturer says the all-new CX-5 will kick-start a fresh era for its line-up, where passenger enjoyment is as important as driving pleasure and simplistic Japanese design helps it to stand out among rivals.

Hope that's not the case here. Sportage already outprices the current CX-5 pricing in SA.
Would like to think, especially with the current favourable exchange rate, they won't raise the prices beyond that of the outgoing model.

For what they offer, Mazda are still one of the best priced car brands in SA, contrary to some uninformed opinions in this thread, I don't see them suddenly pricing themselves out of the market with this one, so i am very optimistic that the new model will still be good value for money that Mazda is so renowned for.

Completely agree. They're fantastic value & quality for the price, and I'm sure will also be the case with this 2nd gen CX-5.

Not bad looking.

What's your favourite SUV right now, FiestaST?

For some reason I have a real soft spot for the previous shape Sportage.

My personal fav Mid-size SUV at the mo is the 2nd Gen Tiguan.

- in White
- must have R-Line pack
- 2L TFSI 162kw model with DSG & 4Motion
- full LED's
- Active Info Display
- the 8" infotainment option
- and maybe a few other nice to have options

That's pretty much it

Completely agree. Pity it's outside of my price range...

Top of the line CX-5 is cheaper than the top of the line Sportage.

This. Would choose a Mazda over a Kia most days of the week.

Now mention something NOT VW :)

Would you guys advise for/against purchasing the current CX-5 model? Walked into a d-ship today and was offered what seems like a good deal on one (plus a good trade-in on my existing old car), but worried that with the new model coming out in just a few months, it might be a silly purchase.

Personally if you can wait for June onwards (most likely Q3) I would wait till the all-new model is out & then score a sweet (lekker) deal on run-out stock of outgoing model.

Nothing wrong with the current one if you ask me. Might be part of the reason why they're giving you a good trade in.

The facelift is the only one on their site. Are you sure it's not out yet?

I'm talking about waiting for the all-new Gen2 CX-5 to reach here circa Q3 or possibly earlier. Then scoring a sweet deal on a run-out late model (2016/early 2017) Gen 1 CX-5.

That's my 2c.

Yeh, I'm scared to wait not knowing when the release will be. Need the car by end July/begin August latest...

From the pics I don't think I am a fan of the facelift, looks like a step backwards in my opinion, the pronounced front does not look quite right.

You might be missing out on some interior improvements though, not that the current one was wanting in that department.

Hitting UK in June. I predict it will be not much more than 3 months to hit SA. Depending on supply of course but I say within 3 months.from UK launch.

Oh sigh got confused there for a sec. My own fault for watching so many car reviews lately. Got the facelift and the Gen2 mixed up.

"The new Mazda CX-5 is scheduled to be launched in South Africa in the second quarter of this year, and the Japanese automaker has announced that it will soon increase production of the crossover in a bid to meet “growing demand” globally."

That means it should be here within the next 3 months. Reckon they're overconfident in that regard?

3 months from now is June. Autocar states UK market is getting it June. Preference there obviously.

My gut says 3 months from March is overconfident.

I would personally say July/Aug.
