That’s not bad, what year was is it? I must say I do enjoy mine but the engine is a bit loud sometimes. I can be in park and it ticks along, but for some reason when I engage a gear it is audibly louder? Maybe it just needs a service, it’s 3000km from its first service.

2015, mine is auto. I love the power when I put my foot down

Anyone had an issue with the 2.2d, where it gains engine oil?? I mean wtf this warning just came on that says the engine oil level is too high, I confirmed it on the dip stick, it’s almost at the X mark, that’s almost double the dip stick level than when I left jhb. I’m in Swazi for the weekend, driving back tomorrow. There definitely won’t be any dealerships open on Sunday. Think I can make it 450km back to jhb with out blowing something up??

Googled about a bit and it seems it was more common in the older models, it’s to do with the dfp filter not regen’ing or something, supposedly it’s an issue on short drives, I just drove 450km in one go? How is it not possible it didn’t regen during that drive. Seems like a dump design dumping diesel into the oil sump.

Ok so an update, just had it serviced, the workshop manager said that the DPF settings are set in the factory overseas and they service the oil every 10000km not 15000 like us, they had to adjust some software or something and it shouldnt happen again (we will see)

Thanks for the updates as I'm still very keen on the diesel so always looking out for feedback on it. Hope the oil/service re-scheduling will not cause any long term damage, especially DPF as they're proper expensive to work on/replace.

What year model is this if I may ask?

I just bought the 2019 CX-5 Individual. But just the 2.0 as higher engines weren't in my budget.
It doesn't have the "pull" of my 1.5T Ford i had before but its certainly FAR more economical.

So far my Pros and Cons are;
PROS
-Drives well and very planted on the road.
-Handles big imperfections well,But.. (See cons)
-Spec is awesome, and Carplay is coming in handy.
-Fuel consumption makes my previous 1.5T Ford look like a bulldozer.
-Nice ride height (although my previous Ford was a ground scraper of note...)

CONS
-The 2.0 can overtake fine but you need to floor it hard to get those valves to do their job. I imagine the 2.5 less so an the 2.2D prob just a tap and it goes. I wish we got the 2.5 Turbo here!
-Suspension tends to be more rough on smaller road imperfections, could also be the 19" wheels...
-Powered tailgate is nice and fast but sounds like its grinding coffee.

Other than that I love it. Its a really really nice car.

FYI other contenders in the running before I settled on the Mazda were:
1. Haval H6C - also nice but i figured i'de pay a little more for a Mazda and the spec.
2. Renault Koleos 2.5 4x4 - If Renault decides to ACTUALLY bring them in to sell them.... when i wanted there were 0.
3. Subaru XV - super nice to drive, awesome spec. But that engine... :crying: Come on Subaru!

Going to be looking to pick up a second hand CX-5 in the next few months. My only requirements are:
• min age 2017 (post facelift)
• leather interior (which probably means I have to look for at least the dynamic spec)
• Automatic

@current owners, anything in particular I need to look out for, like know faults, previous recalls, etc.?
Would appreciate any feedback.

Mine is a 2018

No real complaints, I kind of wish I had waited and got the 2.5T coming from a petrol to a diesel it’s very loud and I always worry it sounds broken. The diesel is also rougher than the petrol. The power is decent but it’s not mind blowing. I will say the awd system is good though. I can feel it deliver the power properly when I put my foot down. I think with the amount of torque the diesel has, without awd it would be completely pointless.

If you going for a 2017 you can have a Apple car play/android auto system retro fitted. Knowing now how little they actually did to fit it I might have tried it myself. If you are DIY you can save a few bucks. The 19” wheels are not super comfortable on rougher stuff, I feel like the 17’s probably feel plusher. The 19’s are also a weird size, they slightly narrower than common 19” tire sizes so you looking at about R2500 a tire for a good brand.

Economy wise, I finally got a decent drive done (to Swazi) usually between my house and work over a month I get 9-10l per 100, going to Swazi I got it down to 6.1 per 100, that’s pretty decent I must say for such a big car.

Over all I would say a good car, the interior (at least on the Akera) is awesome. Sound system is great, it’s a 10 speaker Bose sound system, I think that’s across all models though. But like I said maybe for the price stick with petrol all though it’s a little under powered, it’s quieter, smoother and may cost less to fix one day!

The diesels are/were priced really high at R580 000. They also don’t come with adaptive cruise control which annoys the crap out of me.

Has all been well since the SW update for the DPF on yours?

Perhaps it's because I already drive a diesel, but when driving the Akera it felt and sounded butter smooth to what I'm used to so I came away seriously impressed on that front.

My understanding is that the 2.5 Turbo will not be coming to SA at all, so no point waiting for it. Has this changed? If yes, sign me up!

I think going with the 2.5 NA petrol would put the new RAV4 in front performance-wise with 152kw and a 10-speed box. The RAV4 also has adaptive cruise and a bit more space, but for me it lags behind in pretty much all other aspects.

It’s only been about 200km since the update! Pity the 2.5t isn’t coming here I think that would be the best variant. I didn’t test drive the rav4 but it seems you get a lot for the price. I believe there is a hybrid model, try get that! That would give you the same kind of torque a diesel does. I watched a review where they side by sided a cx5 2.5t and the hybrid rav, they stacked up quite well but the driver preferred the responsive steering of the Mazda. The base rav’s engine is under powered according to that guy.
